The Systems Engineering Division (SED)offers unparalleled expertise in systems engineering to the U.S. government and various public and private agencies, universities, nonprofit organizations, consortia, and commercial companies involved in the advanced development and application of space systems. From systems CONOPs and architecture development to system design and analysis, mission assurance, cost and schedule assessment, and economic market analysis, SED leverages a vast array of engineering and business disciplines across a diverse and dynamic portfolio of space programs and national challenges spanning the total space system lifecycle.
The Digital Systems Engineering Department (DSED), part of SED, is charged with helping our customers successfully adopt, integrate, and utilize digital system models, methods, tools, and best practices as part of their systems realization lifecycle processes through DE and MBSE research & development, prototyping, studies, independent assessments, training, and advisory functions.
Job Summary
We are seeking an Sr. Member of Technical Staff with a focus on Digital & Systems Engineering. The ideal candidate for this position will work individually or as part of a team to research, identify, and implement DE and MBSE approaches for new and existing space and defense systems and advise internal Aerospace and external government customers on the effective use of DE and MBSE methodologies, tools, and practices to achieve their desired system realization and optimization outcomes.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Develop and analyze descriptive models representing complex space, ground, and launch system architectures and designs.

  • Develop various model patterns, model libraries, and model templates for enabling reuse across projects and programs.

  • Conduct DE and MBSE research studies and independent assessments.

  • Advise customers on MBSE methods, languages, and toolsets that meet their systems engineering lifecycle needs.

  • Support the development of DE and MBSE training material and assist with training course and seminar events.

  • Author and present material on DE and MBSE topics of interest to Aerospace customers and communities of interest.

  • Design, develop, and validate digital twin models for complex space, ground, and launch systems.

  • Integrate digital twin modeling into existing MBSE methodologies, ensuring seamless alignment between virtual models and physical systems.

  • Author technical documentation, guidelines, and training materials specific to digital twin implementation and best practices.

What You Need to Be Successful
  • B.S. degree in a relevant engineering discipline (Aerospace, Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, etc.), Computer Science, or related technical field.

  • 4+ years of experience in two or more systems engineering functional areas (e.g., (CONOPs, requirements, architecture, design, system analysis, or integration & test).

  • Practical work experience one or more MBSE modeling languages (SysML, UAFML, LML, etc.), methodologies (OOSEM, SysMOD, MagicGrid, etc.), and tools (Cameo, Sparx, Rhapsody, GENESYS, etc.).

  • Familiarity with architecture framework standards (e.g., DoDAF, UAF, TOGAF).

  • Knowledge of space, ground, launch, and airborne systems.

  • Clearly articulate ideas and work products to colleagues and customers.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Possess strong organizational, time management and project management skills.

  • Ability to work well in a team environment.

  • Demonstrate flexibility and ability to adapt to changing program office sponsor and customer needs.

  • Problem-solving, analytical, and innovation mindset.

  • This position requires the ability to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance issued by the U.S. Government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

How you Can Stand Out
  • M.S. or Ph.D. degree in a relevant engineering discipline (Aerospace, Systems Electrical, Mechanical, etc.), Computer Science, or related technical discipline.

  • Knowledge of business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI, etc.)

  • Some knowledge of graph theory and network science concepts.

  • Knowledge of graph database and visualization tools (e.g., Neo4j, Ontotext, Gephi)

  • Understanding of digital engineering concepts, principles and tools.

  • Some teaching experience, especially in technical subjects.

  • Relevant INCOSE ASEP/CSEP or OMG SysML certification.

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and deploying digital twin models in complex systems environments.
