POSITION OVERVIEW
Perlo Construction is seeking an experienced Commercial Construction Project Engineer to support complex projects from initial planning through final closeout in Cherokee, Alabama. This position combines technical project coordination, document control, cost tracking, field collaboration, subcontractor management, and client communication within a fast-paced commercial construction environment.
The Project Engineer will work closely with Project Managers, Senior Project Managers, Superintendents, architects, subcontractors, vendors, clients, and field crews. Candidates should be comfortable independently managing project documentation and engineering controls while helping ensure work is completed accurately, safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project schedules and contractual requirements.
• Support the technical execution and coordination of commercial construction projects from conception through completion.
• Review blueprints, structural drawings, specifications, and complete plan sets to identify constructability concerns, discrepancies, and potential field issues.
• Manage submittals, requests for information, change proposals, owner change orders, subcontracts, and subcontractor change orders.
• Coordinate daily technical and operational needs with construction professionals, subcontractors, vendors, clients, architects, and field teams.
• Assist Project Managers with budget updates, cost tracking, monthly projections, client billing, and invoice review.
• Estimate construction management activities and self-perform work items.
• Collaborate with the Project Manager and Superintendent to create, update, and maintain project schedules.
• Review subcontractor quotes, support vendor procurement, and assist with negotiations.
• Prepare and organize proposals, clarifications, alternates, and value-engineering options for clients and architects.
• Review contract requirements and owner agreements in partnership with project leadership.
• Lead documentation workflows and maintain timely, complete, and accurate project records.
• Prepare and distribute detailed project meeting minutes.
• Participate in and help lead onsite meetings involving clients, architects, subcontractors, construction crews, and other project stakeholders.
• Identify and respond to technical, operational, safety, and field concerns before they negatively affect project performance.
• Lead quality-control activities, punch-list completion, and project closeout processes.
• Support marketing and business-development efforts when needed.
• Mentor junior Project Engineers, assist with training, and help delegate and review project documentation workloads.
COMPENSATION
• $90,000-$135,000 annual salary
SCHEDULE
• Full-time position
• Onsite in Cherokee, Alabama
• Regular travel to active construction jobsites is required

• 5 or more years of related commercial construction experience, training, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and field experience REQUIRED
• Demonstrated experience supporting commercial construction projects from planning through completion REQUIRED

• Ability to make timely technical decisions and respond professionally to changing conditions, delays, conflicts, and unexpected field events REQUIRED
• Experience with cost tracking, administrative management, risk identification, and risk mitigation REQUIRED
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project, and Bluebeam REQUIRED
• Ability to regularly travel to active construction jobsites REQUIRED
• Ability to navigate active jobsites, including standing, walking, climbing stairs, and accessing multiple floors REQUIRED
• Ability to occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds REQUIRED
Preferred
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred
• Viewpoint software experience preferred
• AIA construction software experience preferred
• Previous experience mentoring or training junior Project Engineers preferred
