Job description

Job Summary:
Bass Pro Shops is seeking a Senior eCommerce Microservices Developer to join their growing team and drive the development of microservices for their eCommerce platform. The role involves creating RESTful APIs, managing database interactions, and ensuring high performance and resilience through monitoring and testing.
Responsibilities:
• Design, develop, and deploy modular, independent microservices using Spring Boot and Java.
• Construct RESTful APIs using proper versioning, request/response DTOs, and input validation.
• Integrate microservices with databases, ensuring appropriate database-per-service patterns.
• Implement messaging systems for service communication using tools like Apache Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Containerize applications using Docker and manage deployments using Kubernetes
• Ensure service health and performance using tools like Spring Boot Micrometer, Prometheus, Elastic and Grafana and other observability practices including logging, tracing and metrics.
• Implement security best practices, data protection, and resilience patterns like circuit breakers, retries, and timeouts.
• Create technical documentation for services and APIs.
• Write unit, integration, and functional tests to ensure quality, and participate in code reviews.
• Train and mentor other developers as assigned.
• Research or prototype new tools and/or technologies.
• Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to shape solutions
• Assist with other projects as necessary to contribute to efficiency and effectiveness of the teamwork.
• Lead internal teams/task forces on initiatives as assigned.

Qualifications:
Required:
• Bachelor's Degree in computer science, engineering, or related discipline is required.
• Functional expertise in relevant eCommerce technologies such as HCL/IBM WebSphere Commerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, SAP Hybris and Oracle Commerce Cloud.
• Design, develop, test, and support applications, APIs, and services using object-oriented analysis and design principles with SQL and Java.
• 5+ years’ experience as a Full Stack Developer or similar role.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in Java, Spring Boot, React, Node JS, CSS, SCSS.
• Working knowledge of ReactJS/Next JS for building integrations with backend services.
• Solid understanding of client-server architecture and web protocols (HTTP, REST, GraphQL).
• Experience with databases, both SQL (e.g., DB2, MySQL, PostgreSQL), NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra) and JPA/Hibernate ORM and caching solutions like Redis.
• Strong working knowledge of complex SQL querying, database optimization, and performance tuning.
• Implement observability practices including logging, tracing and metrics.
• Experience working in an Agile environment and strong understanding of SDLC processes.
• Familiarity with version control systems, such as Git.
• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, Google Cloud).
• Knowledge of containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues with a focus on root cause analysis and long-term fixes.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to express complex technical concepts in business terms.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual skills.
• Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate and persuade at all management levels and thrive in a cross-functional environment.
Preferred:
• IT experience in a retail industry environment is desirable.
