Job description

Costich Engineering is seeking an experienced Project Engineer (Civil) to join our collaborative and growing team. We are a locally rooted, multidisciplinary firm that values practical solutions, strong relationships, and a supportive, family-oriented work environment. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys wearing multiple hats, taking ownership of their work, and working closely with both colleagues and clients from concept through construction completion.

Job Type: Full-time

Schedule: 8 Hour Shift (Day shift – Monday to Friday) with overtime

Experience: 6-10 Years

Salary Range: $80,000 – $100,000 (Commensurate with experience)

Key Responsibilities Design & Technical Work
  • Use AutoCAD Civil 3D 2026 for design and plan production (Existing Features/Demo Plans, Site Plans, Profiles, Grading Plan, Utility Plan, Detail Sheets), maintaining Costich AutoCad & Project Naming & Directory standards.
  • Perform hydrologic/hydraulic analyses and stormwater design in compliance with NYS DEC regulations including drainage & SWPPP Plans & Reports.
  • Compose quantity takeoffs and assist with Preparation of Engineer’s Estimates & Reports (Storm Sewers, Erosion Control & Grading, Pavements, Sanitary Sewers, Earthwork, etc.) and Specifications.
  • Field Investigation and support for project design including percolation tests, traffic counts, infiltration testing, soil testing, watermain pressure tests, backflow, etc.
  • Ensure designs are practical, cost-effective, and buildable.
  • Navigate local and state permitting processes (NYSDEC, municipalities, DOT, Health Dept, Water Authority, Pure Waters, etc.)
  • Coordinate with Costich Project Manager on submissions and approvals with town/planning/zoning boards and agencies, preparing response to comment letters and associated plan revisions, circulating plans for signoffs.
  • Work proactively with Project Manager to keep projects moving!
Construction Support
  • Stay engaged through construction—answer RFIs, review submittals, create job drawings and assist Project Manager with solving field challenges.
  • Work closely with Project Manager, surveyors, landscape architects, and junior staff on project team.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support their development.
  • Contribute to a positive, team-first culture where everyone pitches in.

Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or related field).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Strong understanding of grading, drainage, utilities, and stormwater management.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
Preferred
  • New York StatePE license (or ability to obtain within 12–18 months).
  • Experience with SEQR, zoning/site plan approvals, and regional permitting.
  • Familiarity with GIS tools.
  • Experience mentoring junior staff.
