Job description

A Senior Engineer with Asplundh Engineering Services (AES) will lead a team or work on a team to complete engineering tasks and create custom engineering solutions to meet customer needs. The candidate should also demonstrate the ability to adapt in a fast-paced and evolving industry.

An ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, organizational, communication and planning skills while excelling in a team-based environment. The candidate should approach all tasks in a detail-oriented manner, with a strong sense of ownership over all deliverables.

 
Key Responsibilities
  • Creating and reviewing Protection & Control detailed designs and direct others in the detailed design of medium to extra-high-voltage utility substations
  • Perform detailed design of one-line diagrams, elementary and wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, conduit and cable sizing/routing, substation physical layouts, selection of substation equipment, writing of substation equipment specifications, proposal development, construction cost estimates, and project scheduling
  • Creating and reviewing detailed designs of Communication or Integration One-Line Diagrams and Front view Panel Diagrams for integrating substation protective relaying with utility specific RTU/ Remote Access / SCADA, managed switches and LAN Communication Equipment.
  • Experience filling the role of substation design engineer for several projects occurring concurrently
  • Reviewing current industry best practices to ensure best in class protection philosophy and compliance with cyber security requirements
  • Leading, planning, and coordinating projects with limited supervision
  • Understanding and delivering results based on client-specific standards and requirements
  • Training and developing junior personnel
  • Leading project teams and interfacing with the customer to deliver a quality product by the scheduled delivery date
  • Act as the OE (Owner’s Engineer) responsible for reviewing designs and supplying the design team with the requested information to complete a project 
  • Occasional travel will be required - Field support including Walk-downs, Site Visits, And “As-Built” support
 
 Education & Experience
  • 6+ years of experience in relay/protection engineering or related industry required.
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology. 
  
Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering theory, practices, and procedures
  • Engineer In Training (EIT) registration preferred
  • Registered PE (Professional Engineer) preferred
  • Familiarization or experience with various New England utilities and their associated P&C standards and procedures preferred
  • Experience in power protection, relay design, and planning, or substation design and telecom integration
  • Experience with substation relays and equipment manufacturers such as SEL, GE, Beckwith, electromechanical relays, Ruggedcom switches, and Cimplicity HMIs
  • Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation software preferred
  • Experience with Document Control or Document Management preferred.
