Position Summary
The Staff FIB Engineer is responsible for supporting advanced semiconductor failure analysis, silicon design and debug, product validation, and reliability investigations through complex focused ion beam (FIB) operations and circuit edit activities. This role requires deep expertise in semiconductor device structures, FIB techniques, and a minimum of five years of circuit edit experience utilizing design overlays, layout databases, and associated software tools. The successful candidate will work closely with Design, Product Engineering, Reliability, and Failure Analysis teams to develop and execute innovative circuit edit solutions, perform advanced sample preparation, and support analytical techniques including STEM sample preparation and ESD fault isolation and mapping. The Staff FIB Engineer will also provide technical leadership, mentor junior team members, and drive continuous improvement of FIB methodologies and laboratory capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform advanced circuit edits including cuts, reroutes, via creation, and device isolation.
  • Support failure analysis, silicon debug, design validation, and reliability investigations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to develop edit strategies.
  • Serve as the technical lead for complex circuit edit and FIB projects, providing guidance to engineers, technicians, and cross-functional teams.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentor junior engineers.
  • Drive continuous improvement in circuit edit methodologies and lab capabilities.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science and Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 8 years of semiconductor industry experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on circuit edit experience utilizing FIB systems and layout overlay software.
  • Strong understanding of semiconductor devices, IC design, and process integration.
  • Experience interpreting schematics, layouts, and GDS files.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Physics, or related technical discipline.
  • Experience operating Thermo-Fisher dual-beam FIB systems, end-point detection, and site-specific TEM/STEM sample preparation and lift-outs.
  • Experience with advanced-node semiconductor technologies.
  • Experience with EDS and mapping techniques.
