Senior Database Administrator
Our client is looking for a
Senior Database Administrator to join its technology team and take ownership of highly available, mission-critical Microsoft SQL Server environments. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on database professional who enjoys solving complex performance, reliability, and scalability challenges.
Responsibilities
- Administer, configure, maintain, and optimize Microsoft SQL Server environments.
- Lead database performance diagnostics, query optimization, indexing, and workload analysis.
- Design and support highly available and scalable database architectures using SQL Server Always On Availability Groups and multi-site technologies.
- Develop and maintain backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies for mission-critical databases.
- Develop proactive monitoring and alerting to identify performance, capacity, and availability risks.
- Automate database administration tasks using PowerShell and T-SQL.
- Manage SQL Server upgrades, patching, migrations, and database lifecycle activities.
- Support reporting and analytics workloads, including SSRS and Qlik.
- Partner with application and infrastructure teams on schema design, database standards, code reviews, and release planning.
- Maintain database security, access controls, auditing, and governance standards.
- Develop technical documentation, operational procedures, and runbooks.
- Mentor junior team members and participate in knowledge sharing.
- Participate in on-call and off-hours support as required.
Qualifications
- Extensive hands-on Microsoft SQL Server administration experience in enterprise environments.
- Strong SQL Server performance tuning and troubleshooting experience.
- Hands-on experience with Always On Availability Groups and high-availability/disaster-recovery environments.
- Experience implementing and managing database backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Proficiency with T-SQL and PowerShell.
- Experience with SQL Server upgrades, patching, and migrations.
- Experience supporting reporting and analytics workloads.
- Experience with SSRS, Qlik, and database monitoring tools.
- Strong understanding of SQL Server security, access controls, and auditing.
- Python experience is a plus.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, production-focused environment.
- Must be comfortable working 100% onsite, Monday through Friday, in Warren, Michigan.
