Junior Software Engineer

Onsite (Columbus, OH)

Contract-to-Hire


Brooksource's public sector client is seeking early-career Software Engineers to join their growing technology teams supporting critical applications and digital modernization initiatives. This is an opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects while receiving mentorship from experienced engineers in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.


This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving technical problems, building software, and continuously learning new technologies. Candidates with experience gained through internships, co-ops, coursework, research, personal projects, military service, or other hands-on technical experiences are encouraged to apply.


What You'll Do:

  • Develop, enhance, and maintain software applications supporting business and government operations
  • Collaborate with software engineers, business analysts, QA testers, and project stakeholders
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code
  • Participate in the software development lifecycle, including design, development, testing, and deployment
  • Troubleshoot application issues and assist with debugging
  • Work with databases and APIs to support application functionality
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, code reviews, and team planning sessions
  • Learn new technologies, development practices, and business processes
  • Take ownership of assigned work while actively seeking mentorship and feedback


Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Engineering, or related technical field
  • 0-2 years of software development experience (internships, projects, co-ops, or professional experience)
  • Experience with at least one programming language (Java, C#, Python, JavaScript, C++, or similar)
  • Understanding of object-oriented programming concepts
  • Exposure to SQL or relational databases
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • Demonstrated curiosity and willingness to learn new technologies
