The Role: The Senior Electrical Distribution Engineer (PE) is responsible for leading the planning, design, and execution of electrical distribution projects while providing technical oversight, mentoring junior staff, and supporting client relationship management. This role combines advanced technical expertise with leadership responsibilities to drive high-quality project delivery and team development.
What You'll Be Doing:
Technical Leadership & Project Delivery
Lead distribution planning and design from conceptual/feasibility through detailed design, construction, and commissioning.
Perform and/or oversee:
  • Engineering analysis using tools such as Milsoft WindMil and LightTable
  • Coordination studies, protection settings, and system modeling
  • Arc Flash Hazard Analysis studies
  • Long-Range Planning Studies and Construction Work Plans for utilities
  • Periodic work order inspections and make-ready surveys for attachments
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards (RUS, NESC, IEEE, ANSI, NEC, etc.)
  • Provide quality control and technical review of work produced by junior engineers
  • Provide oversight of design/staking sub-consultants.

Leadership & Team Development
Mentor and develop junior engineers and designers through:
  • Technical guidance
  • Project feedback and coaching
  • Career development support
  • Assist in leading project teams, including task delegation, scheduling, and workload management
  • Promote best practices, consistency, and continuous improvement across the team
  • Contribute to developing and maintaining technical standards and processes

Client & Project Management Support
Serve as a key point of contact for clients on assigned projects:
  • Participate in client meetings, presentations, and coordination efforts
  • Technical presentations at conferences

Support staff in:
  • Scope development
  • Budget and schedule adherence
  • Risk identification and mitigation
  • Assist with utility coordination and relocation planning

Business & Operational Contribution
Support business development efforts through:
  • Proposal development
  • Technical input for pursuits
  • Building and maintaining client relationships
  • Contribute to improving project delivery processes and operational efficiency

What You Bring to the Team:
  • ABET Accredited Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (required)
  • 5-10+ years of experience in electrical distribution planning and design
  • Demonstrated experience leading projects and/or mentoring junior staff
  • Experience working with electric utilities, cooperatives, or similar clients preferred
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required

Preferred Experience
Experience with:
  • RUS standards and documentation
  • NESC, IEEE, ANSI, NFPA/NEC codes
  • Milsoft WindMil and LightTable
  • Protection coordination and recloser/breaker settings
  • Long Range Planning and Construction Work Plans
  • Periodic work order inspections
  • Transmission and Substation design experience is a plus
