With our three market leading businesses, world-class operations and investments in research and development, we offer capabilities and opportunity no one else can. Together, we push the boundaries of known science and find new ways to connect and protect our world.
Pratt & Whitney is a world leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines and auxiliary power systems and has been revolutionizing modern flight for over 100 years. Join us and help shape the future of aerospace and defense.
Pratt & Whitney is seeking for a Senior Design Engineer to support our Mechanical Systems, External, Nacelles (MSEN) Design Engineering team. In this role, you will be part of the Component Integrated Product Teams, resolving high-priority engine teardown and rebuild challenges, determining the resolution of engine disassembly and rebuild issues that develop at the depot during engine rebuild.
What You Will Do:
  • Provide onsite engineering support for engine teardown, inspection, and rebuild activities by evaluating hardware conditions, resolving complex design issues, and delivering timely technical guidance to depot operations.
  • Develop and implement design solutions by applying Pratt & Whitney Engineering Standard Work, collaborating with cross-functional engineering disciplines, and supporting product improvements throughout the engine overhaul process.
  • Serve as the design engineering representative on Component Integrated Product Teams (CIPTs), balancing customer requirements for durability, performance, manufacturability, cost, and weight when developing design solutions.
  • Evaluate the serviceability of MSEN engine hardware by reviewing teardown inspection findings, determining component dispositions, documenting engineering decisions, and presenting technical recommendations to Pratt & Whitney leadership and customers.
  • Expand your structural analysis expertise by applying analytical methods and collaborating with experienced analysts to support engineering decisions and component design improvements.
  • Travel: 10% travel to support program and customer needs (Domestic).

What You Will Learn:
  • Develop hands-on expertise in engine hardware by gaining a deep understanding of component teardown, inspection, repair, and reassembly processes, including the use of specialized tooling, fixtures, and handling techniques that protect critical engine parts throughout depot operations.
  • Strengthen your cross-functional problem-solving skills by collaborating with depot personnel, Component Integrated Product Teams (CIPTs), and engineering teams across Pratt & Whitney to resolve complex technical challenges and improve engine rebuild efficiency.
  • Expand your structural analysis capabilities by learning engineering methods and analytical techniques used to evaluate component integrity, support design decisions, and enhance product performance and reliability.

Qualifications You Must Have:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, or Civil) and 3 years of relevant experience. Relevant experience in engineering design and/or analysis.

Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Experience in the aerospace industry, with a strong preference for turbofan engine design, development, or sustainment.
  • Proficiency with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems, such as Teamcenter, and experience using Siemens NX or comparable 3D CAD software for mechanical design.
  • Familiarity with structural analysis tools, such as Ansys, and an interest in applying analytical methods to support engineering design decisions.
  • Experience with continuous improvement methodologies, including Lean, CORE, ACE, Six Sigma, or other process improvement frameworks.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, SAP, and other engineering or enterprise business applications.
  • Demonstrated project coordination skills, with the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and work across cross-functional teams
