Corning is one of the world's leading innovators in glass, ceramic, and materials science. From the depths of the ocean to the farthest reaches of space, our technologies push the boundaries of what's possible.
How do we do this? With our people. They break through limitations and expectations - not once in a career, but every day. They help move our company, and the world, forward.
At Corning, there are endless possibilities for making an impact. You can help connect the unconnected, drive the future of automobiles, transform at-home entertainment, and ensure the delivery of lifesaving medicines. And so much more.
Come break through with us.
As a leading developer, manufacturer, and global supplier of scientific laboratory products for 100 years, Corning's Life Sciences segment collaborates with researchers seeking new approaches to increase efficiencies, reduce costs and compress timelines in the drug discovery process. Using unique expertise in the fields of materials science, surface science, optics, biochemistry and biology, the segment provides innovative solutions that improve productivity and enable breakthrough discoveries.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Drafting/CAD Technician to support the design and development of precision semiconductor manufacturing equipment and optical systems. In this role, you will create detailed mechanical and optomechanical drawings used in high-precision, cleanroom-compatible environments. You will work closely with mechanical, optical, and process engineers to translate concepts into accurate, manufacturable designs and provide technical guidance to junior CAD staff.
What You'll Do
  • Create and maintain complex 2D and 3D CAD models and drawings for optomechanical components and assemblies
  • Produce detailed fabrication drawings including GD&T, materials, finishes, and cleanliness requirements
  • Support optical-mechanical integration by documenting alignment features, mounts, stages, and enclosures
  • Ensure drawings comply with company standards, semiconductor industry requirements, and configuration control processes
  • Manage drawing revisions, ECOs/ECNs, and PLM/PDM workflows
  • Perform drawing checks for accuracy, tolerance stack-ups, and completeness prior to release
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and suppliers to resolve design and documentation issues
  • Support prototype builds, as-built documentation, and design-for-manufacturability efforts
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior Drafting/CAD Technicians

What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
  • Associate degree or technical certification in Drafting, Mechanical Design, Engineering Technology, or a related field
  • 3+ years of professional drafting/CAD experience in precision mechanical or optomechanical environments
  • Proficiency in mechanical CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo
  • Strong working knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
  • Experience creating detailed manufacturing drawings for machined and sheet metal parts
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and assembly drawings

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with semiconductor manufacturing equipment or optomechanical systems
  • Familiarity with cleanroom requirements, materials, and surface finishes
  • Experience with PLM/PDM systems (e.g., Windchill, Teamcenter, Agile)
  • Knowledge of tolerance analysis, thermal effects, and vibration considerations
  • Experience supporting prototype builds and production transitions
  • Experience with CNC machine tools and programming is a bonus!

Why Join Us
  • Work on cutting-edge semiconductor and optical technologies
  • Collaborate with highly skilled engineering teams
  • Competitive compensation and benefits
  • Opportunities for professional growth and technical advancement

Additional Information
  • This position is onsite and will have exposure to manufacturing or cleanroom-adjacent environments
  • Occasional overtime may be required to meet project deadlines

This position does not support immigration sponsorship.
The range for this position is $58,540.00 - $80,493.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
A job that shapes a life.
