Job description

This position is responsible for developing assigned digital work product(s).
Working with internal and external partners, the incumbent will design and ship complex features and services, owning multi-month projects with real ambiguity. The Senior Software Engineer translates fuzzy product or operational needs into clear technical plans, sets technical direction for projects, and weighs reliability, cost, security, and delivery speed.
This role drives technical decisions in design reviews, coaches mid-level engineers, and provides guidance to junior developers both within the company and selected vendors. Other responsibilities include ensuring that work items are developed against current standards and using best practices, ensuring our applications are future-proofed for further features; provide technical support to Director Software Engineering and VP of Engineering.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or equivalent experience

  • Minimum 7 years of work experience in modern software development practices

  • Minimum 7 years reviewing product and/or business requirements and providing technical feedback

  • Minimum 6 years delivering quantifiable business results

  • Designs and ships complex features and services with strong system design skills within a team's domain

  • Sets technical direction for a project, weighing reliability, cost, security, and delivery speed

  • Gives high-quality code reviews and raises the team's quality bar

  • Owns multi-month projects with real ambiguity; translates fuzzy product or operational needs into clear technical plans

  • Prior supervisory skills managing others in a direct or indirect manner preferred

  • Experience working with an internal software development team and/or external development partners

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across multiple teams and at varying levels throughout the organization

  • Knowledge of multiple functional areas such as Engineering, Content Development, UX/UI, Video and Fan/Customer Support

  • Familiarity with software development life-cycle methodologies such as SCRUM and Agile

  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills with high attention to detail

  • Strong writing and communication skills

  • Experience working with live data in industries like banking, retail, or medical records

  • Experience in search engine optimization and accessibility standards

  • Sports background/knowledge is preferred but not required

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

  • Owns multi-month projects with real ambiguity; impact is visible at the team and stakeholder level

  • Tech lead on projects; drives technical decisions in design reviews

  • Coaches mid-level engineers and mentors senior associates

  • Trusted to represent the team in cross-functional discussions

  • Actively contributes to building team culture and norms

  • Writes proposals and design docs that drive decisions; comfortable presenting to engineering and product partners

  • Builds trust with non-engineering stakeholders; surfaces risks and trade-offs honestly

  • Provide input and thoughts for architectural review of the PGA TOUR digital roadmap

  • Provide technical feasibility of items in the product backlog

  • Works collaboratively with the project management team to develop product objectives and define scope

  • Partners with vendors on the user experience and implementation/support of digital products

  • Collaborates with support staff to troubleshoot issues

  • Performs relevant or necessary on-going system configurations and operational tasks to support the product/platform

  • Special Projects or other duties as assigned
