Position Overview
We are looking for a SATCOM Technician to support the maintenance and troubleshooting of satellite communication systems at our teleport facility. This role requires strong technical expertise and problem-solving capability to ensure reliable operations across RF, baseband, and IP-based systems.
The SATCOM Technician collaborates with NOC technicians, engineering, vendors, and cross-functional teams to maintain system performance, support critical operations, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives while mentoring junior team members.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain and troubleshoot RF, baseband, and SATCOM systems and equipment
  • Ensure uninterrupted satellite signal transmission and reception
  • Resolve issues involving satellite modems, up and down converters, and IP-based transport systems
  • Provide escalation support for complex or unresolved SATCOM issues
  • Collaborate with Tier I technicians and engineering teams to resolve recurring or critical issues
  • Maintain accurate records of configurations, incidents, and resolutions
  • Prepare maintenance logs, technical reports, and standard operating procedures
  • Ensure documentation complies with internal standards and audit requirements
  • Train and mentor junior technicians on troubleshooting techniques and procedures
  • Develop training materials and lead sessions to strengthen team capabilities
  • Conduct routine audits and quality checks on SATCOM infrastructure
  • Assist engineering teams with planned upgrades and maintenance activities
  • Support the development and review of standard operating procedures and maintenance checklists
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to critical outages with rapid fault isolation and recovery
  • Provide clear and professional updates during incident management
  • Contribute to internal reviews and continuous service improvement initiatives

Qualifications
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in satellite communications, RF, or IT network support
  • Strong knowledge of RF systems, satellite modems, IP networking, and system integration
  • Understanding of Linux and Windows-based systems
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and time management skills
  • Experience using test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and power meters

Additional Requirements
  • Experience with routers, switches, firewalls, and SNMP-based monitoring tools is considered an asset
  • Experience with teleport or broadcast operations is preferred
  • Ability to support rotating 24 by 7 on-call schedules, including weekends and holidays
  • Ability to respond to incidents outside of standard working hours
  • Occasional travel to support remote locations
  • Ability to lift equipment, perform installation tasks, and work at height including ladders
  • Comfort working in mixed environments including office space, equipment shelters, rooftops, and outdoor conditions
  • Tolerance for exposure to noise, vibration, and weather conditions during inspections and maintenance
