Junior Azure Data Factory Developer information

What does a Junior Azure Data Factory Developer do?

A Junior Azure Data Factory Developer assists in designing, developing, and maintaining data integration solutions using Azure Data Factory (ADF). Their primary role is to build and manage data pipelines that extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from various sources into cloud-based data warehouses or storage solutions. They work closely with senior developers and data engineers to automate data workflows, troubleshoot issues, and ensure data is processed efficiently and securely. Additionally, they may write basic code, monitor pipeline performance, and help document processes as part of a larger data team.

What is the difference between Junior Azure Data Factory Developer vs Data Engineer?

AspectJunior Azure Data Factory DeveloperData Engineer
Required CredentialsBasic knowledge of Azure, certifications like Azure Data Engineer Associate helpfulBroader certifications like Azure Data Engineer, AWS, or GCP certifications often preferred
Work EnvironmentFocus on designing and developing data pipelines using Azure Data Factory in cloud environmentsDesigning, building, and maintaining scalable data systems across various platforms and tools
Employer & Industry UsageCommon in companies adopting Azure cloud solutions, especially in data-driven rolesWidespread across industries for managing large-scale data infrastructure

The Junior Azure Data Factory Developer primarily focuses on creating data pipelines within Azure using Data Factory, often as an entry-level role. In contrast, a Data Engineer has a broader scope, working with multiple tools and platforms to build comprehensive data systems. While both roles require knowledge of cloud data solutions, Data Engineers typically possess more advanced certifications and experience, handling complex data architecture tasks across various environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Junior Azure Data Factory Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Junior Azure Data Factory Developer, you need a solid understanding of data integration concepts, ETL processes, and a background in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with Microsoft Azure, especially Azure Data Factory, as well as proficiency in SQL, and knowledge of data storage solutions are typically required, with Azure certifications (like Azure Data Engineer Associate) being advantageous. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help you collaborate within teams and resolve data-related challenges efficiently. These skills and qualifications are crucial for building robust data pipelines, ensuring data quality, and supporting analytics initiatives in cloud-based environments.

What are some common challenges faced by a Junior Azure Data Factory Developer, and how can they be addressed?

Junior Azure Data Factory Developers often encounter challenges such as troubleshooting complex data pipelines, managing data integration from diverse sources, and optimizing performance for large-scale data processing. To address these, it's important to become familiar with Azure's monitoring and debugging tools, maintain clear documentation, and collaborate closely with data engineers and business analysts. Seeking mentorship from senior developers and participating in regular code reviews can also help accelerate learning and build confidence in managing production workloads.

Job description

TLA is seeking an experienced and visionary Data Architect to design, optimize, and oversee our organization's enterprise data management framework. In this crucial role, you will define the blueprint for how data is collected, stored, integrated, and consumed across various platforms to support data-driven decision-making and drive business objectives. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including data engineers, analysts, and business leaders, to ensure our data infrastructure is scalable, secure, compliant, and aligned with long-term strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities

Design and Strategy: Develop and maintain the enterprise data architecture, defining the overall data strategy, principles, standards, and guidelines.

Data Modeling & Database Design: Create conceptual, logical, and physical data models for database structures, data warehouses, and data lakes using industry-standard tools.

System Integration: Design and implement solutions to integrate data from disparate internal and external sources, ensuring seamless data flow and accessibility.

Data Governance & Security: Establish and enforce data governance frameworks, quality standards, and security measures (e.g., encryption, access controls) to ensure data integrity, privacy, and compliance with regulations (GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA, etc.).

Performance Optimization: Monitor and optimize data systems, queries, and ETL/ELT processes to ensure high performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency.

Technology Evaluation: Evaluate and recommend new database technologies, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and tools to continuously enhance our data capabilities.

Collaboration and Leadership: Provide technical leadership and guidance to development and data engineering teams, and communicate complex data concepts to non-technical stakeholders effectively.

Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of data architectures, data flows, and technical specifications.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Experience: 5+ years of proven experience in data architecture, data modeling, and database management, with a track record of designing and implementing large-scale data solutions.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Deep expertise in relational (SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, etc.) and NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra, etc.).
    • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala.
    • Strong experience with ETL/ELT processes and tools (Apache Spark, Airflow, Informatica, Talend, Azure Data Factory, etc.).
    • Familiarity with big data technologies (Hadoop, Spark, Kafka) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).
    • Expertise in data modeling techniques (dimensional modeling, 3NF) and data modeling tools (Erwin, Visio, etc.).
  • Soft Skills:
