The Junior Scheduler will, with supervision or independently, will participate in the development, maintenance and analysis of project schedules within a market segment and report variances. The Jr. Scheduler is expected to demonstrate proficiency in the following core competency areas at the level necessary for projects of Minor or Moderate scope.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Junior Scheduler supports the planning and scheduling of construction projects by assisting with the development, maintenance, and analysis of project schedules. Working both independently and under supervision, this role helps monitor project progress, identify schedule variances, and provide updates to support effective project delivery. The Junior Scheduler contributes to projects of minor to moderate scope while developing proficiency in core scheduling and project controls competencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides scheduling support to assigned projects.
  • Develops initial proposal and pre-construction schedules for review.
  • Can draft baseline schedules independently for final completion and review with the project team.
  • Participates in project kickoff and startup meetings.
  • Works with the project team to develop the Project Execution Plan and Baseline Schedule, and assists with the creation of documentation as required to gain approval of the Baseline Schedules.
  • Ensures work follows contract documents and Company policy.
  • Works with site teams during the Planning Meetings and Scheduling Workshops to develop execution plans and create data to input into the schedule.
  • Helps to monitor and maintain the project schedule.
  • Loads resources into schedule activities with tiebacks to the project estimate, and provides analysis on resource leveling.
  • Generates manpower and cost-loaded schedules by integrating monetary and labour costs against developed activity logic with tiebacks to approved estimate.
  • Develops and uses earned-value systems for use on projects as appropriate.
  • Collects status information provided by others and enters it into the schedule.
  • Works with site teams to ensure the project schedules reflect the current project status and incorporate any impacts and changed project conditions.
  • Reviews the schedules critical path for accuracy with site Management and helps produces the necessary monthly reports to be submitted with the monthly payment application.
  • Analyzes changes to the critical path and suggests ways to optimize.
  • Develops “what if” scenarios or “work around” plans with site teams.
  • Identifies and analyzes potential schedule risk events and communicates to Project Manager for action.
  • Supports site teams to generate & documents all changes and adverse conditions as a part of claims avoidance.
  • Develops and maintains 4D Models as appropriate for projects and pursuits.
  • Understands and implements the Standard Operating Procedure for scheduling as well as other related procedures.
  • Participates in monthly controls audit performed by the project’s responsible scheduler and Financial Manager.
  • Acts as a resource for “On the Job” scheduling training of team members.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in Engineering, Architecture or Construction Management plus one to two years related experience.
  • Some exposure to construction logistics, techniques, materials, equipment, crew sizing and sequencing.
  • Experience with multiple construction market types is essential (healthcare, automotive, civil, industrial, sports facilities, etc.).
  • Basic understanding of scheduling software, particularly Primavera P6.
