The Paralegal works with the growing Bankruptcy & Restructuring practice group and is assigned to specific client matters, projects, and/or attorney teams. The Paralegal will manage a high-volume docket of commercial/corporate bankruptcy and restructuring matters and serve as a primary point of contact for attorneys, clients, trustees, and court personnel on assigned matters, as appropriate and under attorney supervision. There is an annual billing component to this role.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Research, investigate, analyze, and summarize facts and factual issues relevant to the practice area.

  • Draft, prepare, and revise bankruptcy pleadings and related documents, including but not limited to petitions, first-day motions, disclosure statements, proofs of claim, and fee applications.

  • Prepare closing binders, including organizational documents, legal opinions, and related materials.

  • Electronically file documents via CM/ECF in various U.S. Bankruptcy Courts and related systems, ensuring compliance with applicable rules, local procedures, and filing requirements, and maintain and update service lists.

  • Track critical deadlines, hearings, and case milestones; maintain and update case management systems, calendars, deal status logs, and post-closing tracking tools.

  • Take appropriate action to monitor and meet deadlines, establish priorities, and work concurrently on a variety of cases and projects.

  • Maintain the firm's official file utilizing the document management system and ensure that documents are organized, up to date, and easily accessible.

  • Conduct factual and procedural research using PACER, court dockets, and other databases; review and download court dockets and bankruptcy filings.

  • Assist in preparing case summaries, timelines, and status reports for internal and client use.

  • Prepare and organize exhibits, hearing binders, agendas, CNO/COC binders, and trial notebooks in connection with bankruptcy hearings and related proceedings.

  • Coordinate hearing logistics, including scheduling, notices, and service in consultation with attorneys and relevant court rules.

  • Draft notices, CNO/COC, pro hac vice motions, proposed orders, affidavits, and other filings, including joint administrative motions, motions to extend claim objection deadlines, removal motions, non-substantive claim objections, and retention applications.

  • Assist attorneys with preparation for hearings, 341 meetings, depositions, and trials, including assembling materials, witness lists, and supporting documentation.

  • Arrange for court reporters, interpreters, and other vendors as needed in connection with hearings, depositions, and other proceedings.

  • Perform paralegal duties and responsibilities as directed by the group leader and other attorneys in the assigned substantive practice group.

  • Perform all assignments in strict compliance with ethical guidelines governing the practice of law and firm policies.

  • Receive and follow complex instructions, exercising sound judgment and attention to detail.

  • Track and record clientbillable time and nonbillable hours accurately, meeting minimum billable hour requirements.

  • Maintain and prioritize daily workload and communicate promptly if unable to meet daily responsibilities or deadlines.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent grammar, punctuation, and proofreading skills.

  • Ability to work independently and use initiative in accomplishing routine assignments with minimum supervision.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • Minimum of eight (8) years of paralegal experience in the bankruptcy and restructuring practice areas, specifically working on corporate Chapter 11 debtor and/or creditor matters.

  • Certificate from an ABA-approved paralegal program preferred.

  • Experience with database file management systems, such as iManage and other records management systems.
