Job description

The Credit Review Segment Head is responsible for Credit Risk Review for US Credit Cards (USCC). A good understanding of the industry, direct competitors' products and services, is also necessary in order to contribute to the safety and soundness. Requires thorough understanding of strategic direction of the function within the relevant part of the business, combined with a solid conceptual/practical grounding in both the function and/or area of expertise and related subject areas. Excellent communication skills required in order to negotiate internally, often at a senior level. Some external communication may be necessary.
Responsible for executing functional strategy in area managed. Accountable for end results, budgeting, planning, policy formulation and contribution to future strategy of the area(s). Impact reflects size of team managed, strategic influence on the business and interaction with other functions or businesses. Full management responsibility of direct staff, including management of budget and review scope and coverage planning, to include duties such as performance evaluation, compensation, hiring, disciplinary actions and terminations and expense/budget approval. May be doing involved or responsible for diverse (cross-discipline) activities. Typically, a direct report to a C16 role and function as an integral member of the functional leadership team within a country/site location, job family, or line of business.
Responsibilities:
  • Assesses the effectiveness of credit risk management at Citi and the ability of the Business and Independent Risk to identify, monitor and mitigate current and emerging credit risks across Citigroup and Citibank.
  • Responsible for managing and directing all aspects of the region's assigned Review Entities, including the execution of Business Monitoring and Reviews in accordance with the Credit Risk Review (CRR) Manual. Provides direction, leadership, and guidance to the regional credit review teams that:
  • Monitor and evaluate Retail portfolios, strategies, and credit risks.
  • Assess the effectiveness of credit risk controls of assigned businesses
  • Propose pragmatic solutions to risk and control issues
  • Maintain ongoing contact with an entity through Business Monitoring and corrective action follow-up
  • Develop and maintain the Credit Risk Review Plan document, Sample Rationale Document, etc.
  • Responsible for managing the regional CRR review program that consists of global, regional, or single-country credit reviews related to all or some businesses
  • Represent CRR in the Region with Business and Risk Seniors including participation in key Regional Risk Committees and by being CRR's representative on any regional high-level projects
  • Manage and lead the USCC (US Credit Cards) credit review team
  • Coordinate with the Global Head of Wholesale/Consumer Credit Review and CRR Management as appropriate to address and escalate emerging risk trends
  • Ensure that assessments of portfolios, credit risk processes, risk ratings and classifications, staffing models and others as related to Business Monitoring and Reviews are consistent and properly reported to senior management, Citi's Boards of Directors, and regulators
  • Ensure that Corrective Action Plans across the regional CRR review program are appropriate, monitored, duly validated, and concerns resulting from CRR reviews
  • Ensure that CRR documents that include Credit Assessment Documents and Review Reports meet quality and consistency standards
  • Assist in recruitment, talent development, and building an effective review team
  • Engage in VOE initiatives for Credit Risk Review
  • Regularly interface with senior business and independent risk managers
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, adhering to Policy, applying sound credit judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.

Qualifications:
  • 15+ years experience in credit/finance required.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Power Point, Access, Word, Visio, etc). Visual Basic experience is a plus
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships and exert influence without direct authority
  • Work experience in Banking, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, Computer Science or similar with Credit or financial statement analysis experience preferred.
  • Regulatory experience or relevant experience in a similar role at another institution.
  • Senior Credit Officer qualification preferred.
  • Formal credit training or understanding of financial accounting standards (international and/or domestic) is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of Citi's organization and systems preferred.

  • Bachelor's/University degree, Master's degree preferred and managerial experience
