What are some common challenges faced by professionals working with JSTL in web application development?

Professionals using JSTL (JavaServer Pages Standard Tag Library) in web development often encounter challenges such as ensuring proper tag library configuration, managing scope and lifecycle of variables, and integrating JSTL with other frameworks like Spring or Struts. Additionally, maintaining clean code separation between business logic and presentation can be difficult, as overusing JSTL in JSPs may lead to cluttered pages. Collaborating with backend developers to ensure data is prepared correctly for JSTL tags is also a key aspect of the role.

What is JSTL and what is it used for?

JSTL stands for JavaServer Pages Standard Tag Library. It is a collection of tags that helps developers add common functionalities like iteration, conditionals, and database access to JavaServer Pages (JSP) without writing Java code directly in the page. JSTL makes JSP pages easier to read, maintain, and reuse by separating the business logic from the presentation layer. It is widely used in Java web applications to simplify development and encourage best practices.
