Overview

System Administrator V:

Bowhead is seeking a System Administrator V for an upcoming opportunity in Juneau, AK supporting the operational stability and integrity of Alaska Fisheries information systems. This role is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and recovery of system software and infrastructure, ensuring data integrity and continuity of service. The position requires familiarity with standard system administration practices and a degree of independent judgment in planning and executing day-to-day tasks.

Responsibilities
  • Install new software releases and system upgrades in accordance with organizational change management procedures.
  • Evaluate and deploy system patches; troubleshoot and resolve software-related problems affecting system performance or availability.
  • Perform regular system backups and execute recovery procedures as needed to ensure business continuity.
  • Maintain data files and monitor system configuration to ensure ongoing data integrity.
  • Perform a variety of system administration tasks across both Linux and Windows environments.
  • Apply standard concepts, practices, and procedures appropriate to the system administration field.
  • Plan and accomplish goals with a degree of creativity and latitude, drawing on experience and judgment.
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience of related experience
  • Demonstrated experience in system administration, including software installation, patching, backup, and recovery.
  • Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures in system administration.
  • Knowledge and experience with Alaska Fisheries systems and operational environments.
  • Ability to independently plan tasks and exercise sound judgment in resolving system issues.
  • Experience supporting both Linux and Windows desktop environments.
