What is a jr developer?

Jr Developers, or Junior Developers, are entry-level professionals in the software development field. They typically have less experience than mid-level or senior developers and are responsible for writing, testing, and maintaining code under the guidance of more experienced team members. Jr Developers often work on smaller tasks, bug fixes, or simple features, and are expected to learn and grow their technical skills through mentorship and hands-on experience. Their role is essential for building a solid foundation in software development and contributing to the success of development projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a jr developer?

To thrive as a Jr Developer, you need a foundational understanding of programming languages (such as JavaScript, Python, or Java), basic software development principles, and often a relevant degree or coding bootcamp certification. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, IDEs, and workflow tools like Jira or Trello is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and eagerness to learn help Jr Developers stand out in the workplace. These abilities are crucial for efficiently contributing to team projects, adapting to new technologies, and growing within a dynamic development environment.

What are some common challenges a jr developer might face when joining a new team, and how can they overcome them?

As a Jr Developer, one of the most common challenges is adapting to unfamiliar codebases and workflows. It can be daunting to understand existing projects and navigate team-specific tools and processes. To overcome this, Jr Developers should proactively seek help from team members, take thorough notes, and dedicate time to reviewing documentation and code. Embracing code reviews and asking questions will not only accelerate learning but also help build relationships within the team.

The Strategic Account Manager assigns customers and opportunities, establishes commercial priorities, provides coaching and escalation support, and reviews or approves quotations and customer commitments when required by company policy or delegated authority. The employee must comply with company quality standards, applicable procedures, confidentiality requirements, and customer requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Manage the customers, sales opportunities, and quotations assigned by the Strategic Account Manager.
  2. Serve as the primary sales contact for assigned customers while maintaining alignment with the Strategic Account Manager regarding commercial strategy, priorities, commitments, and escalations.
  3. Execute sales activities for assigned accounts and opportunities to support revenue, bookings, pipeline, and customer-growth targets.
  4. Develop and maintain customer profiles that include key contacts, locations, products, programs, purchasing requirements, current business, forecasted demand, quote history, and potential growth opportunities.
  5. Build, maintain, and regularly update the sales pipeline for assigned customers and opportunities, including opportunity value, probability, timing, current status, next action, and expected PO date.
  6. Identify additional business opportunities within assigned customer accounts and communicate recommended actions to the Strategic Account Manager.
  7. Develop new business leads, as assigned, through existing customer contacts, referrals, online market research, cold calling, email outreach, trade shows, and other approved sales activities.
  8. Field inbound inquiries from procurement professionals, engineers, supply chain representatives, and other customer contacts and ensure each request is documented and assigned an appropriate next action.
  9. Receive, document, and track customer RFQs and confirm the required response date, quotation scope, and internal ownership.
  10. Perform an initial review of drawings, specifications, material requirements, requested quantities, annual volumes, quality requirements, delivery expectations, and due dates to confirm the RFQ package is complete.
  11. Coordinate clarification of missing, incomplete, or conflicting RFQ information with the customer, Strategic Account Manager, and appropriate internal technical teams.
  12. Coordinate with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, Finance, Estimating, and other applicable functions to obtain the inputs required to complete accurate quotations.
  13. Maintain responsibility for quotation status, internal follow-up, completion dates, customer due dates, required approvals, submission, and post-submission follow-up for assigned opportunities.
  14. Prepare quotation packages using approved company templates, systems, pricing information, commercial assumptions, and internal technical inputs.
  15. Confirm that quotations clearly document applicable volumes, pricing, lead times, tooling, validation, inspection, equipment, quality, delivery, capacity, and other commercial assumptions.
  16. Review quotations with the Strategic Account Manager when pricing direction, commercial approval, contractual review, or additional support is required before customer submission.
  17. Submit approved quotations to assigned customers within the committed timeframe and maintain appropriate records of the submission.
  18. Follow up with customers on submitted quotations, document feedback, address open commercial questions, and coordinate technical responses with the appropriate internal owner.
  19. Identify and execute the next actions required to advance assigned opportunities and convert quotations into POs.
  20. Document customer feedback, competitive information, changes in scope, timing, pricing expectations, and reasons for won, lost, delayed, or cancelled opportunities.
