Job description

Principal Manufacturing is seeking a Tool & Die Maker to join our team in Broadview, IL. As a leader in fineblanking, conventional stamping and plastic injection molding, Principal Manufacturing sets itself above the competition.

The Tool & Die Maker will maintain production as needed that may require tool maker knowledge or the use of all Toolroom equipment. Responsible for simple die designs, building tools, dies, jigs and fixtures.

Responsibilities:

  • Work from blueprints, sketches, models, or specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools, dies, or assemblies.
  • Manufacture components to a tight tolerance and inspect finished dies for timing accuracy and defects. Fit and assemble parts to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools, using machine tools and hand tools.
  • Build maintain and repair manufacturing tooling, compute finishing details of dies, and ensure manufacturing standards.
  • Train apprentices or subordinates in the use of Toolroom equipment, blue print reading, and use of required measuring tools.
  • Maintain and efficiently perform production assignments/ expectations from supervisor within allotted time period per the production schedule.
  • Efficiently debugging a die in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Work with Tool Design Engineers to ensure tooling manufacturability.
  • Conduct test runs with completed tools or dies to ensure that parts meet specifications, making adjustments as necessary.
  • Accurate data entry into the Plex system to track tooling cost and repair history
  • Follows all company safety rules and TS requirements and maintain work area clean and orderly within lean guidelines.
  • Update dimensions for a final tool timing sheet.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma and Journeyman Tool and Die Maker certification (Federal or TMA/TDI)
  • Basic AutoCAD skills
  • 4 years tool making experience in fineblanking, stamping, EDM, CNC and plastic insert molding.
  • Set up and operate conventional or CNC machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Plex knowledge
  • Understanding of all fineblanking operations, stamping operations, fixtures, gages and secondary tooling.
  • Understanding of the use of all Toolroom equipment and machinery.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with reading blue prints.
  • Calculating geometry functions and basic math.
  • Basic understanding of the TS quality system.
