The Opportunity
The Department of Advertising at the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications invites applications for a full-time, nine-month scholar at the rank of Associate or Full Professor in Advertising.
Position Description
The Department of Advertising seeks to hire an associate or full professor engaged in scholarly research and grant acquisitions in the areas of health communication, science communication, environmental communication, or risk communication. Scholars should emphasize mediated or mass communication aspects of these specialties. The successful candidate has built a national or international reputation, via an established research record with publications in top-tier journals and success in securing extramural funding. They are also expected to mentor junior faculty, contribute to the department's leadership, advance the research agenda, and foster collaborations across the College and University and with other national or international institutions.
In addition to scholarship, the ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, especially doctoral students, on topics related to the faculty member's expertise. We seek candidates that can teach undergraduate advertising courses and graduate-level mass communication courses. Preferably, they will demonstrate competency in teaching one or more courses from the core curriculum for the advertising major, especially courses in advertising strategy and advertising campaigns. Core courses for the undergraduate major include but are not limited to Principles of Advertising, Advertising Strategy, Copy and Visualization, Digital Insights, Media Planning, and Advertising Campaigns.
Job Qualifications:
Qualified candidates for the position
• Have already achieved the rank of Associate or Full Professor with tenure
• Have an active record of published research and scholarship related to the field of Advertising or other areas of mediated health/science communications that complement proven areas of strengths in the CJC
• Have experience teaching undergraduate advertising courses and graduate mass communication courses
• Can successfully demonstrate funded partnerships with other scholars in the disciplines associated with communications or among disciplines outside of communications (e.g., artificial intelligence, health, science, engineering, sustainability)
