Job description

Huggins Hospital offers a variety of educational opportunities for students either in high school or healthcare affiliated post-secondary educational programs. These opportunities consist of both clinical and non-clinical areas, and are supported through the Department of Human Resources.
Clinical Rotation Students & Medical Students - Students will observe and participate in clinical departments in order to complete course work requirements. Students must be in a healthcare affiliated educational program, with a current contract approved by Human Resources. Students will have supervised direct patient contact consistent with the course curriculum and the supervising department head, to the extent that Huggins Hospital's Risk Management has approved. Clinical competencies and objectives of the internship must accompany the student from the affiliated program, and evaluations may be conducted at the conclusion. It is up to Department Director and Vice President to determine whether they can accommodate a clinical student.
School-to-work high school students - High schools students that are part of the "HOSA-Future Health Professionals Organization" to prepare high school students to enter the health care field or other school-to-work agreements. Students spend time of their school day in various departments of the hospital and receive school credit for this time. HOSA students do have supervised direct patient care, and are similar to clinical rotation students. It is up to Department Director and Vice President to determine if they desire to host a school-to-work student.
Process:
  • Once students have completed the online application, HR will determine if there is an available preceptor.
    Students should apply at least 60 days prior to requested start date to be considered.
  • If there is an available preceptor, Human Resources will reach out to the student to begin an onboarding process that will include:
    • Affiliation Agreement for Institution/School including Certificate of Liability Insurance
    • State and National Criminal Background Check (Within 6 months of start date)
    • Hospital Orientation and all Human Resources/HIPAA required paperwork
    • TB Risk Assessment Questionnaire
    • TB Symptom Screening
    • Review of prior TB testing or TB treatment documentation
    • Current Tetanus within 10 years (Tdap)
    • Proof of Hepatitis B series or titer
    • Proof of two MMRs or positive titers for Measles, Mumps and Rubella
    • Proof of two doses of Varicella vaccine or positive titer for Varicella
    • Flu Shot (current influenza season 1 Oct - 31 March)
    • 10 panel Urine Drug Screen the follows a chain of custody (within 45 days of start date)

Human Resources is responsible for the regulation of students and has responsibility for the placement of clinical internships, job shadows and observation students.
