Applicants must be highly qualified by one of the following methods:
1. Complete at least two years of study at an institution or higher education (equal to 60 semester hours); or
2. Obtain an associate's degree (or higher); or
3. Pass one of the formal assessments:Â WorkKeys Test (proctored prior to January 2017); Michigan Test for Teacher Certification - Basic Skills (MTTC); or ETS Parapro Assessment (proctored at the Sault Schools Administration Building).
The paraprofesisonal position is a nine (9) month position (school year) with an hourly wage of $18.20 per hour.Â
Positions have full benefits (medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, life, and long term disability insurances, retirement and Paid Time Off).Â

Our district includes one Title I elementary school (K-5), the region's largest Title I middle school (grades 6-8), and the largest high school (grades 9-12) attached to a Career Center serving students in the Eastern Upper Peninsula. Our Title I Alternative High School provides a supportive environment for approximately 100 students, offering credit recovery and graduation options.

New teachers receive strong mentorship and guidance, with efforts to qualify them for tuition or loan forgiveness.
ÂSault Area Schools is a leader in computer-aided instruction, with all classrooms equipped with instructional technology. The Career Center integrates technology into many career and technical programs, including business services and drafting and design with industry-standard CAD-CAM software. Students can choose from 13 in-house career-technical programs or additional off-campus specializations.
