Job Description The Pipeline Planner leads planning, scheduling, forecasting, and project controls support for major pipeline and pipeline facilities projects executed from Fluor's Calgary office.
The role supports all project phases, including feasibility, FEED, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup. The successful candidate combines pipeline execution knowledge with advanced planning expertise to develop integrated execution plans, establish realistic schedules, manage risks and opportunities, and provide reliable forecasts. As a member of the project leadership team, this individual aligns engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, client, and contractor activities into a cohesive execution strategy.
Planning and Scheduling Leadership Lead development and maintenance of integrated Level 1 through Level 4 schedules appropriate to project phase and complexity. Establish work breakdown and coding structures, scheduling standards, progress measurement systems, reporting methods, and schedule baselines. Ensure schedules reflect scope, execution strategy, resources, milestones, interfaces, constraints, and project risks.
Pipeline and Facilities Integration Integrate schedules for transmission pipelines, gathering systems, compressor and pump stations, meter stations, terminals, and related infrastructure. Coordinate inputs across engineering disciplines, procurement, construction, contractors, clients, and execution centers. Manage interfaces between linear infrastructure and facilities and ensure activities are properly sequenced to support construction and commissioning priorities.
Project Controls, Forecasting, and Risk Monitor performance against baselines and milestones; lead forecasting, trend analysis, critical path assessment, and performance reporting. Identify schedule risks and opportunities and develop mitigation, recovery, and alternative execution scenarios. Evaluate schedule impacts of scope changes and support project change management, forecasting, and decision-making.
Client, Construction, and Team Leadership Serve as the primary planning representative for clients and project leadership; lead schedule reviews, workshops, and execution strategy meetings. Present status, forecasts, risks, opportunities, and recovery plans clearly to client and senior management teams. Support constructability reviews, construction planning, field progress validation, commissioning schedules, proposals, and project pursuits.
Basic Job Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Business, or a related discipline from an accredited institution. P.Eng., PMP, PSP, or an equivalent professional designation is preferred. 15-20 years of project planning, scheduling, controls, engineering, construction, or execution experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role including EPCM projects.
Demonstrated experience with major transmission pipeline and facilities projects through engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup. Other Job Requirements Preferred Qualifications Technical Competencies Advanced knowledge of planning, scheduling, project controls, critical path methodology, earned value, progress measurement, forecasting, and schedule risk analysis. Expert proficiency with Primavera P6 and strong capability developing integrated schedules, coding structures, logic, baselines, and performance metrics.
Strong understanding of engineering work processes, procurement strategies, pipeline construction, facilities development, commissioning, startup, resource planning, and productivity. Leadership and Communication Skills Leads cross-functional teams while balancing strategic planning, execution management, stakeholder engagement, and project objectives. Anticipates execution risks, develops practical solutions, influences outcomes without direct authority, and manages competing priorities.
Exceptional written, verbal, presentation, facilitation, workshop leadership, and relationship-building skills. Success Profile Develops realistic, achievable plans that integrate engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup. Provides accurate forecasting and actionable analysis that support timely project decisions.
