Job Overview:
This position is located in Eleuthera, Bahamas. All required documents necessary to work in the Bahamas will be necessary, including a clear driving record.  

Lead the Charge in Engineering Excellence! We are seeking a hands-on and proactive Chief Engineer to oversee the operations and maintenance of our hotel's systems and facilities. As a vital part of our team, you'll ensure the smooth and safe operation of all engineering-related functions. 

What You'll Do:

  • Lead by Example: Supervise and delegate daily work assignments to your team, reviewing priorities and special projects to ensure nothing is overlooked.

  • Perform Preventative Maintenance: Coordinate and execute preventive maintenance tasks in guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces to ensure equipment is operating at its best.

  • Quality Control: Conduct final inspections of all engineering-related work and ensure that all work orders are completed with precision and attention to detail.

  • On-the-Spot Problem Solver: Step in as needed to perform engineering staff functions and resolve issues, including emergency equipment and machinery repairs.

  • Safety First: Oversee and ensure that all safety equipment complies with federal, state, and local regulations, and facilitate quarterly and annual inspections. Be a safety champion for both the team and the guests.

  • Manage Tools & Equipment: Maintain all tools and equipment in working condition, ensuring proper use, cleaning, maintenance, and storage practices are followed.

  • Budget Management: Take ownership of the engineering department's annual budget, ensuring efficient resource allocation while maintaining high standards.

  • Team Leadership: Oversee a talented team, with responsibilities for interviewing, hiring, training, appraising performance, resolving issues, and motivating staff to meet excellence.

What We're Looking For:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required; vocational training or a college degree is a plus.

  • Minimum of 2 years as a hotel maintenance engineer, with previous supervisory experience strongly preferred.

  • Any building trade licenses or certificates from the state of operation are highly preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of all mechanical equipment critical to the hotel's operations, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and fire systems.

  • In-depth understanding of repair and maintenance codes, including health, plumbing, electrical, fire, and OSHA codes.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, such as blueprints, schematics, and safety manuals.

  • Proficiency in using power tools, hand tools, meters, and other equipment related to engineering functions.

  • Familiarity with managing and troubleshooting building systems and using alternatives in emergency situations.

  • Excellent communication skills to work effectively with guests, management, and co-workers. Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.

  • Ability to endure frequent physical activity, including lifting, carrying, and handling equipment.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to handle unexpected challenges with confidence and calm.
