What is a job fair?

A job fair is an event where employers and job seekers meet, usually in a large venue or virtually, to discuss employment opportunities. Employers set up booths or tables to share information about their companies and available positions, while job seekers can network, submit resumes, and sometimes participate in on-the-spot interviews. Job fairs are valuable for networking, learning about different organizations, and discovering new career paths. They are often organized by universities, recruitment agencies, or community organizations and can be targeted towards specific industries or open to the general public.

What should I expect in terms of networking and employer interaction at a job fair?

At a job fair, you can expect a dynamic environment where you'll interact directly with recruiters and hiring managers from various organizations. It's common to have brief, focused conversations where you can introduce yourself, ask questions about open positions, and share your resume. The atmosphere is typically fast-paced, so being prepared with an elevator pitch and thoughtful questions is key. Networking is a central activity, and making a positive impression can lead to interview invitations or valuable professional connections.

Job description

Houston Zoo Career Fair – Find Your Place in the Wild!

Ever wondered what it takes to make a zoo run? Spoiler alert: it takes A LOT more than animal care!

Houston Zoo is opening its doors to job seekers, career explorers, students, experienced professionals, and anyone curious about what it’s like to build a career with an organization dedicated to connecting communities with animals and inspiring action to save wildlife.

Join us for the Houston Zoo Career Fair and discover the many career paths that help bring our mission to life every day!

Save the Date

Thursday, September 24, 2026
10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Brown Education Center (BEC) at the Houston Zoo

There’s More to a Zoo Career Than You Think!

It takes an incredible variety of people, skills, backgrounds, and career paths to operate the Houston Zoo.

During the Career Fair, you’ll have the opportunity to meet representatives from departments across the Zoo and learn more about careers in areas such as animal care, conservation, education, guest experience, operations, facilities, events, membership, philanthropy, administration, and more!

Our partners with SSA Group, who support food, beverage, and retail operations at the Houston Zoo, will also be joining us to share information about opportunities with their teams.

Whether you’re ready for your next career move, looking for your first opportunity, considering a career change, or simply wondering, “How do I get my foot in the door at a zoo?” we want to meet you!

What Can You Expect?

Come prepared to explore, connect, ask questions, and have fun!

You’ll be able to speak directly with team members about what they do, learn about different career pathways, discover the experience and qualifications that may help you prepare for future opportunities, and hear more about what it’s like to work in the nonprofit and zoological space.

Some departments may also have current openings and opportunities to interview during the Career Fair. Not every participating department will be actively hiring, but that’s part of what makes this event special, you can explore careers you may not have even known existed!

Come Prepared!

We encourage attendees to:

  • Register in advance and let us know which career areas or departments interest you.
  • Bring several copies of your résumé to share with teams.
  • Come ready to tell us about your experience, interests, and career goals.
  • Take advantage of the opportunity to ask our staff about their own career journeys and what helped them get where they are today.
  • Check out our current openings before attending, if something catches your eye, apply before the Career Fair!

Please note: Registering for the Career Fair or submitting your information through this posting is not considered an application for a specific Houston Zoo position. If you are interested in a current opening, you will still need to submit an application directly to that position through the Houston Zoo Careers page.

Your Career Could Take a Wild Turn

You may arrive knowing exactly where you want your career to go, or you may discover an entirely new path while you’re here.

Either way, our goal is for you to leave knowing a little more about the people behind the Houston Zoo, the incredible variety of careers that support our mission, and how your skills and experience could one day become part of our story.

Mark your calendar. Bring your résumé. Bring your questions. And come explore what your future at the Houston Zoo could look like.

We can’t wait to meet you on September 24!
