J.H. Larson Company is an independent distributor of Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC and Datacom products with 8 locations in Minnesota, Wisconsin and South Dakota and 4 showroom locations. We have a great opportunity to join our Sales Team covering the Wausau, Abbotsford, and Stevens Point, WI areas. The Outside Sales Representative generates sales, manages new and existing customer relationships, negotiates and interfaces with customers and suppliers, while adhering to company policies and procedures. They work cooperatively with inside sales, project managers, quotation specialists, and other members of the distribution team to grow existing customers, to create new customers and meet or exceed monthly sales quotas at the appropriate gross margin while increasing customer satisfaction. Outside Sales Representatives are subject matter experts on products that are sold by JHL and understand the entire sales process from starting a quote through the delivery of the final product.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Prospecting and Lead Generation Identify potential clients through market research, cold calling, networking, and attending events. Qualify leads to determine potential business opportunities
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers and vendors through regular follow-up, meetings, and personalized service. Provide value-added service. Manage customer expectations and resolve issues to retain business
  • Negotiate and Close Sales Discuss terms and agreements with customers to close deals. Overcome objections and finalize sales
  • Manage Customer Orders including writing orders, overseeing submittal, shipping, expediting, billing, and resolving any issues that arise
  • Provide feedback on pricing, service, products, and customer needs
  • Participate in sales meetings, vendor training, and collaborate with other departments to ensure tasks are completed efficiently
  • Document sales activities by updating CRM systems and keeping records of sales activities, client information, and feedback


Qualifications:

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Associate’s degree in business, marketing, or a related field preferred


Experience and/or Training

  • 3-5 years of sales experience in the electrical or construction industry, with an awareness of building and safety regulations
  • Experience selling to senior leadership, project managers, estimators, and buyers within commercial and residential contractors. Ability to manage complex accounts
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations and to other employees of the organization
  • Project management skills, including the ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines
  • Organized, strong time management skills. Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks and collaborate within a multi-functional team
  • Ability to negotiate deals, handle objections, and close sales
  • Ability to find and develop new leads through cold calling, networking, and referrals
  • Math skills. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • A flexible attitude, detail oriented, consistent, tenacious, creative problem solver
  • Self-motivated and self-starter. Perform assigned duties with minimal personal supervision
  • Willingness to travel frequently
  • Computer experience with different order management systems (Eclipse knowledge preferred)
  • Wholesale distribution experience preferred
  • 5+ years in customer service preferred
  • Subject matter expert on electrical, plumbing, HVAC components highly preferred
  • Business, finance and marketing skills are preferred


Licenses/Certificates

  • Valid US Driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Clean Driving Record
