What are JFS (Job Family Series) positions?

JFS stands for Job Family Series, which is a system used primarily in the U.S. federal government to classify positions based on the type of work and occupational field. Each series groups jobs with similar duties, qualifications, and career paths, making it easier to manage hiring, pay, and advancement. For example, positions in human resources, engineering, or administration each have their own JFS codes. Knowing the JFS for a job helps applicants understand the qualifications and expectations for that role.
