Jetpack information

What are some common challenges faced by jetpack developers when integrating the plugin with existing WordPress sites?

Jetpack developers often encounter challenges related to compatibility with custom themes or other plugins, especially when sites rely on unique functionalities or have been heavily customized. Ensuring optimal site performance while enabling multiple Jetpack modules can require careful configuration and testing. Additionally, developers need to address security settings and user permission management, as Jetpack features may alter site access or workflows. Collaboration with site owners and other developers is essential to troubleshoot issues and maintain a seamless user experience.

What is the difference between Jetpack vs Content Writer?

Employer & Industry UsageWeb developers, digital agencies, WordPress usersMedia companies, marketing agencies, online publishers
Common Search & ComparisonTechnical tool for website enhancementCreative role focused on writing and content strategy

Jetpack is a plugin primarily used for website security, performance, and management within the WordPress ecosystem. In contrast, a Content Writer focuses on creating written content for various digital platforms. While Jetpack requires some technical knowledge, a Content Writer emphasizes strong writing skills and creativity. Both roles are essential in digital media but serve different functions within the online industry.

What are jetpack engineers?

Jetpack engineers are professionals who design, build, and maintain personal propulsion devices, commonly known as jetpacks. These engineers combine knowledge from aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, and electronics to create wearable flight systems. Jetpack engineers may work on improving safety, fuel efficiency, and maneuverability of jetpacks, as well as developing new technologies for personal flight. Their work is important in both recreational and practical applications, including rescue missions and entertainment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a jetpack technician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Jetpack Technician, you need a background in mechanical or aerospace engineering, strong troubleshooting abilities, and relevant technical training or certification. Familiarity with propulsion systems, diagnostic software, safety protocols, and specialized maintenance tools is essential. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and effective communication set top performers apart in this field. These skills ensure the safe and efficient operation of jetpack technology, minimizing risks and optimizing performance.

What is a jetpack?

A Jetpack job typically refers to a scheduled task or background process managed by Android's Jetpack WorkManager. It allows developers to execute deferrable and guaranteed work, such as syncing data or sending notifications, even if the app is closed or the device restarts. Jetpack jobs are useful for handling recurring or long-running operations efficiently while considering system optimizations and battery life.

Full-time

Job description

About the Team

Droyd builds autonomous robotic systems that automate repetitive manual work in real environments. We design and manufacture our hardware in-house, which means iteration, fabrication, and execution all happen under one roof.

Our software doesn't just run in the cloud โ€” it has to deploy reliably across real robots, Jetsons, and internal systems used for testing and demos. Our engineering team works across robotics, embedded systems, and edge infrastructure, and we need strong operational foundations to support fast iteration and reliable releases.

About the Role

As a DevOps Engineer at Droyd, you will own the systems that make software deployment reliable across our robots and edge infrastructure. You will build release processes, improve deployment confidence, and create operational tooling that supports both engineering velocity and fleet reliability.

A central part of this role is dealing with the realities of Jetson-based systems: cross-compilation from x86_64 to aarch64, JetPack quirks, OTA workflows, and the infrastructure needed to keep a distributed hardware fleet working.

This role is based on-site in San Francisco, CA.

In This Role, You'll

Release & Deployment

  • Build and maintain release and deployment pipelines for robots and edge systems

  • Own operational workflows across local development, Jetson devices, and production environments

  • Improve deployment confidence, reproducibility, and rollback safety across the fleet

Fleet & Edge Infrastructure

  • Improve OTA and fleet management workflows for deployed hardware

  • Handle cross-compilation workflows from x86_64 to aarch64 for Jetson-based systems

  • Work on the infrastructure behind certs, JWKS, QUIC, and other reliability-critical systems

Process & Collaboration

  • Work closely with robotics and software teams to standardize release, update, and system management practices

  • Drive process improvements in messy real-world systems

Work Environment & Schedule

  • On-site in San Francisco, CA

  • Full-time

Compensation: $120Kโ€“$200K base salary, plus equity

We're Looking For Candidates Who

  • Have strong DevOps or infrastructure engineering experience

  • Have deep Linux and Ubuntu experience

  • Have hands-on experience with JetPack and Jetson-based systems

  • Have experience with Docker Compose, systemd, fleet management, or OTA workflows

  • Can design practical deployment systems for hardware and edge environments

  • Have strong technical judgment and can drive process improvements in messy real-world systems

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Balena or Balena Etcher

  • Experience with embedded Linux or robotics deployments

  • Experience supporting cert, auth, or transport infrastructure in production systems

About Droyd

Droyd builds autonomous robotic systems that operate in real production environments. We design the hardware, develop the control stack, and generate the data that enables generalist robotics.

If we do this right, robots stop being demos and start being infrastructure.

Join us and help build the systems that make it real.
