Job description

GFT is seeking an experiencedย Resident Engineer - Transit and Railย to join our Construction Services team in New Jersey.ย This role presents an exciting opportunity to be an important part of critical construction efforts for large-scaleย transitย and rail projects in New Jersey.ย

Whatย you'llย be challenged to do:ย 

As a Resident Engineer, you will oversee all construction work on assigned projects and coordinate field coverage as needed. You will keep the client informed of field activities and progress, supervise field personnel, review daily reports, and guide the field team. You will communicate with office staff, review Site Specific Safety Work Plans (SSSWPs), Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), Construction Work Plans (CWPs), Quality Work Plans (QWPs), and other submittals. You will attend meetings in person and workย directly with the Clientย and Project teamย membersย to resolve issues.ย 

What you will bring to our firm:ย 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineeringย or related fieldย 
  • Professional Engineer license is preferredย 
  • Experience with NJ Transit, Port Authority of NY & NJ,ย NJDOT,ย or NJTAย 
  • 10+ years of experience in Rail RE activities and managing construction field teamsย 
  • Experience with catenary systemsย 
  • Experience with rail facilitiesย 
  • Candidate must have the ability to driveย 
  • OSHA 30-hour safety course certificationย requiredย 
  • Work schedule must be flexible to accommodate varying shifts (day, evening,ย weekend)ย 
  • Familiarity with Project Management Procedures (PMP's) and Project Management Guidelines (PMG's)ย is a plus.ย 
What you will bring to our firm:
  • Managing daily observation of contractor operations for rail-related transportation projects across New Jersey and the broader tri-state regionย 
  • Serving as the field point of contact for the client and project stakeholdersย 
  • Supervising field staff, including inspectors, community liaison, and office engineerย 
  • Reviewing and verifying construction schedules, including baseline and updates, in coordination with the clientย 
  • Performing inspections andย observingย field testing and commissioningย 
  • Assistingย with preparation and negotiation of change orders and project reportingย 
  • Reviewing contractor payment vouchers,ย manningย reports, payroll certifications, and labor documentationย 
  • Leading project progress meetings and issuing meeting minutesย 
  • Overseeing site safety,ย permitย compliance, and coordination with adjacent projectsย 
  • Monitoring contractor compliance with safety and health plans and approved quality plansย 
  • Working with contractors to minimize public disruptionย 
  • Coordinating responses to RFIs, submittals, and shop drawings with design teamsย 
  • Preparing punch lists with the owner at project completionย 
  • Addressing project challenges related to schedule and budget in collaboration with the owner, GFT, and contractorsย 
  • Handling project management responsibilities including staffing oversight, budget tracking, cost-to-complete analysis, andย maintainingย project recordsย 
  • Reviewing project documents to resolve construction and design issues and preparing correspondence and reportsย 
  • Using spreadsheets, databases, and scheduling tools to support project deliveryย 
  • Communicating with all key stakeholders throughout the project lifecycleย

  • Experience with airport projects.
  • Certifications such as Rutgers TCC, NJSAT, ACI (preferred).
Compensation:

The salary range for this role isย $155,000 - $220,000 per year. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
