Purpose of Announcement
EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT WEST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF SEWERAGE.
This employment list will also be used for future EAST AND WEST Jefferson vacancies in this Department as they occur.
Kind of Work
The purpose of this position is to safely and efficiently operate the Sewer Washout Truck, and to perform minor maintenance and servicing of the assigned equipment in accordance to existing safety programs, work standards, and procedures. Besides operating the Sewer Washout Truck, the operator will be required to inspect and maintain the equipment's tire inflation; oil levels; leaks (oil, fuel, water, etc.); coolant in radiator; lights and signal devices; clear and clean windows, lamp lenses, mirrors; and functioning windshield wipers. May also be required to operate all equipment assigned to lower level Equipment Operators, as well as all equipment assigned to the level of Equipment Operator III, as assigned by the department. Depending on the assigned vehicles, Equipment Operator III may be required to possess a valid Louisiana Class A or B Commercial Driver's License in order to perform the tasks associated with the position. Performs related work as required. This position is also an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or his designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish.
NOTE: The current vacancy requires driving of a Parish vehicle necessitating a Class A license, thus possession of a valid Class A driver's license and acceptable driving record will be given preference.
Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination
Possession of a current Louisiana Class C (or higher) Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and an acceptable driving record; plus, meets one of the following two options:
I. Current employment and permanent civil service status with Jefferson Parish and: (A) Verifiable, satisfactory work experience (or completion of an approved Parish training course) in the operation of a Sewer Washout Truck OR (B) Certification by an Appointing Authority that applicant has been adequately trained to operate a Sewer Washout Truck.
OR
II. Minimum age of 18 years and verifiable, satisfactory work experience (or certifiable completion of an acceptable training course) in the operation of a Sewer Washout Truck. Copies of licenses and certificates awarded for completion of training should be submitted with application.
*NOTE: A valid Class C (or higher) Commercial Driver's License (CDL) from a state other than Louisiana is acceptable for application; however, once an employment offer is extended, an applicant has ten (10) days to obtain the required Louisiana CDL. Failure to obtain a Louisiana license will disqualify an applicant for permanent employment in this position.

Vacation (Annual Leave)
Employees accumulate one half day of paid vacation for every two weeks worked.
Leave accrual rates increase with years of service. Any unused annual leave is
usually paid upon separation from Parish Employment.
Sick Leave
Employees accumulate one half day of paid sick leave for every two weeks worked.
Sick leave is available for personal illness, injury or medical consultations.
Holidays
Nine paid official holidays are observed, plus any holidays declared by Parish Officials.
Life Insurance
All regular employees receive a life insurance policy equal to one year's salary.
Extra insurance may be purchased.
Medical Insurance
An HMO medical insurance plan is avalable for employees and their
dependents. Jefferson Parish pays 80% of the premium for employees and 50% of
the premiums for dependents.
A Flexible Benefits Plan
Employees have the opportunity to save money by paying for health
insurance and optional insurance with pre-tax dollars. A Flexible Savings
Account for Medical Expenses and Dependent Care is also available.
Retirement
Most regular employees belong to the Parochial Employees' Retirement
System instead of the Social Security System. For employees hired after
January 01, 2007, a pension calculated at 3% of salary per year of service
is provided upon retirement at age 67 with 7 years of service, age 62 with
10 years of service, or age 55 with 30 years of service.
Tenure Payment
Employees are paid $25 per year of service in December of each year.
Employees must have worked two years before the first check is paid.
Deferred Compensation Plan(457b plan)
Similar to 401K programs, the 457b Deferred Plan allows employees to defer
up to $14,000 of pretax income each year to supplement retirement savings.
Pre-tax contributions can be cashed in upon retirement or termination without
penalty. This plan is provided by Nationwide Retirement Solutions 1-877-677-3678.
Special leaves of absence for military service, maternity leave, etc.
