As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will provide expert-level cost consultancy and project support for projects across various stages and sectors-from concept design to construction completion. You will be responsible for delivering estimates, procurement advice, and post-contract administration, working independently or managing a team, depending on project size and scope. You will partner with data center clients and internal teams to deliver exceptional value, acting as a trusted advisor and helping to ensure successful project outcomes.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Be confident and skilled in the understanding and use of various contracts (as a minimum NEC & JCT), identify unacceptable terms & conditions and negotiate suitable alternatives.
  • Understand and have experience in the review and agreement of contract terms and conditions ensuring Legal governance is adhered to at all times.
  • Be experienced in full commercial contract administration from tender to final account.
  • Experienced in the procurement and negotiation process associated to a project and subsequent supply chain management.
  • Complete cost and value reconciliations along with the forecasting on a monthly basis for all projects.
  • Manage the Risk and Opportunity processes, ensuring mitigation measures are identified and implemented at the correct time to benefit the project.
  • With the support of the Directors & SMT CM's assume responsibility for the servicing of clients.
  • Ensure that Cumming Group company standards are adhered to on all works undertaken.
  • Ensure the successful delivery of contracts you and your responsible staff are dealing with, in a timely manner and to the highest standards.
  • Be a visible public face of the business as appropriate.
  • Management and delivery of QS services - fee earning projects.
  • The co-ordination, management, and development of the more junior members of staff.
  • Support, develop and improve the professional and interpersonal skills of the Cumming Group team.
  • Ensure staff are aware of, and are delivering, their responsibilities.
  • Ensure clients always receive an exemplary level of service and performance from yourself and the Cumming Group team.
  • Always represent the company in a professional and confident manner.

Knowledge & Skills Required:
  • Suitable experience of undertaking QS duties.
  • Be able to make informed decisions for the benefit of our clients.
  • Commercial negotiation skills in a Quantity Surveying setting.
  • Energetic, self-motivated and able to take a flexible and adaptable approach.
  • Passionate and driven to succeed.
  • Demonstrable leadership and motivational qualities.
  • Commercially astute and numerate.
  • Well organized and able to plan effectively.
  • Present and report information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Possess clear and concise communication skills - written and spoken.
  • Able to produce both summarized and detailed reports.
  • IT literate, especially in terms of Microsoft Office/Excel.

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Ideally degree qualified: construction, cost management, engineering, quantity surveying or other RICS accredited degree.
  • MRICS / other equivalent qualification or experience.
  • Some formal leadership development training.
  • 5+ years' experience.
  • Strong knowledge of construction industry technical matters.
