Job Summary

Caterpillar is looking for a Software Engineer 3 to support the Advanced Controls and Condition Monitoring team. The role focuses on control algorithm development, software development, simulation, and validation using SIL, HIL, and machine testing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and analyze control algorithms and software.
  • Perform SIL and HIL simulations and validate software on machines.
  • Develop, test, evaluate, and deploy control and diagnostic solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and debug embedded software.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams and communicate technical results.
  • Participate in code/model reviews and software releases.
Required Education & Experience
  • Master’s degree required in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of industry experience.
  • PhD preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree alone is not acceptable.
Top Required Skills
  • Strong MATLAB/Simulink, Stateflow, Simscape Power Systems, and co-simulation experience.
  • Knowledge of control theory, PID, nonlinear control, adaptive/sliding-mode control, neural networks, or fuzzy logic.
  • Experience with embedded software and real-time operating systems/Linux.
Additional Technical Skills
  • Debugging tools such as Lauterbach, CANape, and CANalyzer.
  • Git/version control.
  • Programming experience with C, C++, Python, Java, or JavaScript.
  • Generator/engine controls experience is a plus.

Ideal Candidate
