About the role
We're growing our Frontend Engineering team at Self. As an Associate Frontend Software Engineer, you'll help build Self Financial's mobile app and web experiences while learning from experienced engineers on a high-performing team.
This role is designed for someone early in their engineering career, typically with 0-3 years of professional experience. You'll contribute to customer-facing features, improve your frontend fundamentals, and build high-quality software in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with frequent releases.
We care deeply about creativity, quality, learning, and delivering an innovative user experience to a large customer base.
What you'll do
  • Build and maintain customer-facing features across Web, iOS, and Android with support from senior engineers.
  • Implement frontend functionality using JavaScript/TypeScript, React, HTML, and CSS.
  • Contribute to React Native mobile app experiences and web experiences as part of a cross-functional product team.
  • Integrate frontend components with REST APIs and third-party services such as analytics, messaging, and feature flagging tools.
  • Write clean, maintainable code and participate in code reviews.
  • Learn and apply best practices for testing, accessibility, performance, and safe releases.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, Backend Engineering, QA, and your engineering manager to ship user-focused improvements.
  • Debug issues, ask good questions, and grow your understanding of Self's frontend architecture and development practices.
  • Contribute to team rituals, documentation, and continuous improvement.

What you bring
  • 0-3 years of software engineering experience, including internships, co-ops, academic projects, bootcamp projects, or professional experience.
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and modern web development fundamentals.
  • Basic understanding of REST APIs and how frontend applications communicate with backend services.
  • Familiarity with Git and common software development workflows.

Base salary range: $90,000-130,000 annually. Individual pay and level is based on factors unique to each candidate, including skill set, experience, and other job-related reasons.
