Nebraska DHHS is seeking an experienced Database Administrator to support and maintain critical IBM z/OS and LUW DB2 environments that power essential Health and Human Services systems. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with 5+ years of DB2 administration experience, strong Java, REXX, Python development skills who is ready to ensure data reliability, system performance, and long-term stability for mission-critical applications.
This is a full-time/permanent on-site role in Lincoln, Nebraska. Not eligible to be a contracted position.

Examples of Work

  • Design, implement, test IBM z/OS and LUW DB2 database changes in accordance with NFOCUS and MMIS releases
  • Manage the IBM z/OS and LUW DB2 environment by performing reorgs, statistics, data unloads/ loads, data backups/ recoveries
  • Assist technical teams with SQL Query development as well as troubleshooting issues
  • Administer and maintain Windows MS SQL Servers

Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Associate Degree in Computer Science or related field of study and three years related experience or A bachelor's degree or equivalent in computer science, information systems, mathematics, engineering or other related field and two years of experience. Experience may include application programming, software installation and software maintenance, including systems programming, online programming, database design, analysis and programming using IFS and/or SQL/DS and database administration. Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications: The candidate must have at least 5 years of recent experience in the following:

  • IBM z/OS and LUW DB2 Administration and support
  • IBM InfoSphere Data Replication
  • REXX/ Python/ VBscript development
  • CA CoolGen
  • COBOL

Other:Position is located on-site at the Nebraska State Office Building in Lincoln. No remote or hybrid work.

Hours: Monday - Friday (business hours) with occasional off hours support


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Knowledge and experience supporting IBM z/OS and LUW DB2
  • SQL Query development and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of utilizing IBM z/OS tools including Data Studio, SPUFI, QMF, DB2I
  • Knowledge and experience with Java/ REXX development to author and maintain scripts used for DB2 administration
