Job Description
The Software Engineer II is an early- to mid-career contributor that has a combination of formal education and experience in the software engineering field. They are responsible for the research, design, development, analysis, testing, and implementation of software operating or application systems. They communicate project information to client, project manager, or other design personnel working on projects. They maintain good working relationships with clients and staff. They write and maintain complete documentation. They support team members and ensure established goals and deadlines are met. They keep management informed of status and significant problems.

About the Role
We are seeking a Software Engineer II to join our team and contribute to the design, development, and delivery of scalable, high-quality software solutions. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about fullstack development, takes ownership of their work, and thrives in a collaborative environment.
You will play a key role in building and supporting applications, partnering with cross-functional teams, and delivering solutions that drive business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain fullstack applications using Java and modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., Angular, React)
  • Translate functional and non-functional requirements into scalable, reliable technical solutions
  • Deliver high-quality code and ensure successful project execution (on time, on budget, and on scope)
  • Participate in troubleshooting and resolving system issues to minimize downtime and ensure service reliability
  • Develop and execute effective testing strategies that balance quality with speed and efficiency
  • Identify risks, gaps, and improvement opportunities in requirements and propose practical solutions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve processes and drive team effectiveness
  • Contribute to technical documentation, including requirements and design specifications
  • Engage in continuous learning and knowledge sharing to support team growth and innovation
Technical Skills & Competencies
  • Solid understanding of software development principles (design, coding, testing, security, and performance)
  • Experience designing scalable applications using object-oriented or other design methodologies
  • Familiarity with cloud-based and SaaS environments, including building for scalability and reliability
  • Knowledge of SDLC models (Agile/Scrum) and ability to apply them in practice
  • Ability to analyze metrics and performance indicators to improve system outcomes
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with a sense of urgency in addressing issues
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to identify risks and escalate appropriately
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience in lieu of education: Equivalent relevant experience performing the essential functions of this job may substitute for education degree requirements. Generally, equivalent relevant experience is defined as 1 year of experience for 1 year of education and is at the discretion of the hiring manager.
  • 3+ years of experience building web-based applications and services using Java, REST, and modern web technologies
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with:
    • Java (Spring or similar frameworks)
    • JavaScript (Angular, React, or Node.js)
  • Experience working with databases and integrating third-party applications into existing systems

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with tools such as IntelliJ, VS Code, JIRA, and Git
  • Experience in Agile/Scrum environments
  • Familiarity with J2EE/Java EE, SQL, and application integration with legacy systems
  • Experience with cloud-native development and/or migrating applications to AWS
  • Exposure to identity management solutions (IDM/OSSO) or enterprise systems (e.g., Banner)
  • Technical certifications
