Job description

AI-Enabled Development Processes

- Senior Software Engineer (Java +AI skills most important)

Overview:

  • This role operates within an AI-native delivery model where engineers use Claude to generate large volumes of production-bound code across the full stack, then own, review, and make that code production-ready.
  • The Senior Software Engineer (AI) is a hands‑on contributor within the Workflow Orchestration Initiative, responsible for building intelligent backend services that enhance enterprise workflow and automation solutions using workflow orchestration platforms.  This role requires strong Java and enterprise development experience, complemented by Python and AI/ML skills, working closely with Java software engineers on shared platforms and services.
  • This individual will support the Payment BU Workflow Intelligence and Optimization Initiative, contributing to the design and implementation of AI‑enabled components and backend services that support workflow orchestration and decision automation. Working alongside Java engineers, Staff Engineers, and architects, this role helps deliver scalable, secure, and extensible solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Use Claude and AI-native coding tools to generate, review, and deliver large volumes of production-ready code across the full stack — backend services, frontend components, APIs, workflows, and tests — with full ownership and accountability.
  • Design and develop Java‑based backend services and APIs that integrate with workflow orchestration platforms such as Appian.
  • Implement AI/ML‑enabled capabilities (e.g., classification, extraction, recommendations, prediction, decision support) using Python and enterprise AI frameworks.
  • Collaborate closely with Java software engineers to align AI services with core backend architecture and shared platforms.
  • Develop and maintain microservices using Java, Spring‑based frameworks, and established enterprise patterns.
  • Expose AI capabilities through secure, scalable APIs for consumption by workflow and application services.
  • Partner with data engineering teams to access, transform, and validate data used in AI use cases.
  • Support model integration, inference pipelines, monitoring, and performance tuning in production environments.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, DevSecOps practices, automated testing, and observability across Java and AI services.
  • Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and technical collaboration to promote quality and consistency.

Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience using Claude, Copilot, Cursor, or equivalent AI coding tools to deliver working software in a professional setting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of enterprise software development experience, including backend systems.
  • Strong proficiency in Java with hands‑on experience using Spring Boot / Spring Cloud.
  • Hands‑on experience with Python for building or integrating AI/ML solutions.
  • Experience integrating AI/ML models or AI services into enterprise applications.
  • Strong understanding of RESTful API design, integration patterns, and service security.
  • Hands‑on experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred), data modeling, and query optimization.
  • Familiarity integrating backend services with workflow orchestration platforms such as Appian.
  • Understanding of agile development practices (SAFe preferred).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in an AI-native development model — generating code across the full stack through Claude or equivalent tools, reviewing output, and owning delivery end to end.
