Position Summary:

P17 Solutions has an immediate need for a skilled Adaptation Specialist to support the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Terminal Flight Data Manager (TFDM) Program. The Adaptation Specialist shall provide site-specific configuration, integration, validation, and maintenance support of TFDM capabilities at terminal facilities. The Adaptation Specialist is a subject matter expert responsible for translating operational requirements and local air traffic control procedures into facility-specific configurations (adaptations) that enable safe, efficient, and tailored deployment of the TFDM system.

This position plays a critical role in ensuring successful deployment and transition of TFDM capabilities into operational use at FAA terminal facilities, while maintaining alignment with national standards and program baselines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and support TFDM program software and architect. Duties include Adaptation Specialist, Software Release Management, Implementation COTS for lab management, enterprise design support and maintenance planning, and software development.
  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of internal scenario generation tools and supporting applications using Java, Python, and Maven.
  • Architect and maintain the TFDM SWIM data pipeline and supporting virtual machine infrastructure, including always-on asynchronous multithreaded systems.
  • Develop and maintain automation and adaptation tools supporting TFDM initiatives using:
    • Java ~ Python ~ JavaScript / TypeScript ~ React ~ Spring Boot ~ Electron
  • Support software installation, configuration, adaptation, acquisitions and operational testing environments for TFDM systems and labs.
  • Design and support enterprise-level TFDM SWIM data integration system utilizing:
  • Configure operational parameters including gate and stand layouts, surface routing, flight data rules, and alerting thresholds.
    • JMS messaging systems ~ Asynchronous processing architectures ~ Multithreaded Java services ~ PostgreSQL databases
  • Maintain operational systems supporting TFDM training and adaptation workflows.
  • Support rapid application development with custom stack of Linux, Oracle, Node JS, HTML, and CSS.
  • Develop, manage, and validate site-specific TFDM configurations (e.g., gate/stand layouts, surface routing, flight data rules, alerting parameters).
  • Collaborate with Air Traffic Control (ATC), Technical Operations, engineering teams, and other stakeholders to gather and interpret operational data, procedures, and local requirements.
  • Coordinate between development, training, and operational teams to ensure successful scenario deployment and testing.
  • Use adaptation tools and configuration management systems to input, update, and version-control site adaptations.
  • Participate in pre-deployment assessments, dry-runs, and readiness reviews to ensure adaptation accuracy and completeness.
  • Support system integration testing (SIT), joint site acceptance testing (JSAT), and operational testing (OT&E) efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with enterprise-level architecture, safety, and system engineering standards.
  • Assist in root cause analysis of adaptation-related issues and coordinate resolution strategies with engineering teams.
  • Maintain documentation of adaptation decisions, processes, and version histories for audit and knowledge management purposes.
  • Provide training, guidance, and technical support on adaptation concepts to local and national stakeholders.
  • Applied domain expertise in:
    • AT Operations ~ TFDM Systems and workflow ~ Communication with stakeholders and operational personnel

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Aviation, Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or related field; or equivalent experience.
  • Prior experience working with or within the FAA's TFDM, TFMS, or ERAM programs.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in aviation systems adaptation, air traffic operations, or system integration roles.
  • Ability to interpret operational needs into technical requirements and translate them into functional system configurations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to interface with air traffic controllers, engineers, and program stakeholders.
  • Extensive ability to travel to FAA facilities for site surveys, adaptation workshops, and deployment support as needed. >50%

  • Experience using FAA's adaptation development environments, such as URET or TDDS.
  • Knowledge of enterprise geospatial systems such as ARCGIS or AutoCAD for airport layouts.

The compensation range listed in the job posting reflects the projected pay for a full-time (40 hours per week) position. Part-time employees are compensated at an hourly rate. The estimated minimum and maximum figures represent the broadest possible range for this role, inclusive of locations with higher cost-of-living adjustments and positions requiring elevated clearance levels. This range is only one component of P17 Solutions' comprehensive total compensation package.
