Job description

New Full Stack Java Developer Indianapolis, IN Apply with CSCI Job Description CSCI Consulting is looking for a Full Stack Java Developer to support our DoW client. In this role, the consultant will support the modernization and enhancement of mission-critical government applications. This role will focus on converting legacy Struts-based applications to modern Spring and Angular architectures while supporting ongoing development, testing, and deployment activities in an Agile environment. The ideal candidate will have experience developing enterprise web applications using Java, Spring Boot, Angular, and RESTful APIs, with a strong understanding of software modernization efforts and secure application development practices. Responsibilities * Analyze existing Apache Struts applications, business processes, and code bases to support modernization and migration efforts * Convert legacy Struts, JSP, and Servlet-based functionality into modern Spring Boot, Spring MVC, and Angular solutions * Refactor legacy code to improve maintainability, security, performance, scalability, and long-term supportability * Modernize application architectures by implementing RESTful APIs and contemporary front-end development practices * Collaborate with architects and senior developers to translate existing business rules and workflows into modernized application designs * Perform impact analyses to identify dependencies, integration points, and conversion risks within legacy applications * Develop and execute unit, integration, and regression testing to ensure functional equivalency following conversion activities * Troubleshoot and resolve defects identified during modernization, testing, and deployment efforts * Participate in code reviews and apply secure coding standards and development best practices * Utilize AI-assisted development tools to accelerate code analysis, modernization activities, testing, and documentation where appropriate * Support Agile development activities, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, and team collaboration Minimum Requirements * Active Secret Clearance * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience) * 2-5 years of software development experience * Experience developing applications using Java * Experience with Spring Framework and/or Spring Boot * Experience with Angular, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS * Experience working with relational databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL * Experience supporting or enhancing legacy Java web applications * Understanding of MVC-based web application architectures * Experience using Git and Agile software development methodologies * Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills * Creativity and adaptability in problem-solving * Ability to work with clients to understand their needs * Strong organizational and time-management skills * Excellent written and verbal communication skills * Professional presence Preferred Skills * Experience participating in application modernization efforts involving migration of legacy Java applications to Spring-based architectures * Familiarity with Apache Struts, JSP, Servlets, or other legacy Java web frameworks * Direct Apache Struts development experience * Experience migrating Struts applications to Spring MVC or Spring Boot * Ability to work in a team environment, as well as independently * Strong customer and vendor relationship skills * Demonstrated ability to comply with data standards and policies * Motivation to learn new technologies and methodologies that demonstrate value * Department of War experience is a plus!
