Senior Java/Python Developer

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Java/Python Developer to support a strategic Fundamental Review of the Trading Book (FRTB) initiative within a global banking environment. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Java and/or Python, solid SQL skills, and experience working with complex data models and data-intensive enterprise applications.

This role requires a developer who can quickly understand existing applications and technical environments, work independently with minimal guidance, and contribute immediately to fast-paced project deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain applications supporting FRTB, regulatory, and risk management initiatives.
  • Develop scalable and high-performance solutions using Java and/or Python.
  • Analyze and navigate complex financial data models and large datasets.
  • Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot SQL queries and database-related solutions.
  • Work with business analysts, risk teams, architects, and developers to deliver project milestones.
  • Participate in technical design discussions and recommend application and solution improvements.
  • Independently troubleshoot application, development, and data-related issues.
  • Contribute to accelerated development efforts and aggressive project timelines.
  • Support application integration, testing, deployment, and production-readiness activities.
  • Quickly learn application-specific functionality and become productive with minimal ramp-up time.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong hands-on development experience with Java or Python; experience with both is highly preferred.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience working with relational databases.
  • Experience working with complex data models, data-intensive applications, and enterprise-scale systems.
  • Ability to quickly understand existing applications, architectures, and technical environments.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, debugging, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, delivery-focused environments.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within Capital Markets, Risk Management, or Regulatory Reporting environments.
  • Previous experience with FRTB, market risk, trading systems, or regulatory programs.
  • Familiarity with financial products, trading book data, and risk calculations.
  • Experience with performance tuning, data optimization, and large-volume data processing.
  • Experience working in large-scale financial services or banking environments.
  • Exposure to Agile/Scrum methodologies.
