Senior Software Engineer • $241k–$326k • Java / Algorithms / Real-Time Systems • Full Scope Polygraph Clearance • Maryland – On-site Summary A technology-focused engineering organization is seeking a senior Java software engineer to develop and enhance complex software supporting mission-critical Signals Intelligence systems. The team delivers Quick Reaction Capability solutions that modernize advanced platforms in response to evolving operational requirements. This role offers the opportunity to work across the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, solution design, Java development, systems integration, testing, cybersecurity, field deployment, operations, and long-term technical support. Engineers collaborate with software, systems, and hardware specialists to deliver reliable, high-performance systems operating under demanding technical constraints. Responsibilities Software engineers in this role develop, maintain, and enhance complex, software-intensive systems, including processing-heavy analytics, novel algorithms, extremely large datasets, real-time applications, and information management platforms. Engineers analyze user requirements, derive software design and performance requirements, design and code new Java software, enhance existing applications, debug defects, and integrate software into new or modified operating environments. Additional responsibilities include developing database queries and interfaces, implementing complex algorithms, reviewing and testing software components, documenting test results, resolving software problem reports, supporting system installation, and ensuring operational specifications are met. Senior engineers may lead software development teams, oversee product quality, improve development standards, and work with systems and hardware engineers to evaluate performance requirements, system interfaces, software reuse, and hardware/software trade-offs. Required Skills • Strong software engineering and programming experience using Java • Experience designing, developing, maintaining, and enhancing complex software systems • Experience with object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, and software architecture • Ability to analyze system requirements and derive software design and performance requirements • Experience debugging existing software and resolving complex defects • Experience integrating software into new or modified systems and operating environments • Experience developing software for real-time, processing-intensive, or large-scale data systems • Experience designing or implementing complex database and data repository interfaces • Experience developing and executing software component test procedures • Knowledge of software development and design methodologies • Ability to lead software development activities and provide technical direction • A current Top Secret/SCI security clearance with Polygraph Preferred Skills • Java frameworks such as Spring or Spring Boot • REST API design and development • Relational or NoSQL database development, including complex queries • Linux-based software development • Build and dependency-management tools such as Maven or Gradle • Version control using Git • Automated testing and continuous integration practices • Experience developing or optimizing high-performance algorithms • Experience working with extremely large datasets or processing-intensive analytics • Experience with distributed or real-time software systems • Familiarity with COTS and GOTS software integration • Experience supporting system integration, field deployment, and operational environments • Knowledge of secure software development practices within classified environments TO BE CONSIDERED Please either apply by clicking online or emailing me directly .
