About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with deep expertise in Scala, Akka, and Java to join a long-term contract engagement in the industrial technology / heavy equipment sector. In this role, you will build and maintain platform notification services that alert end-users to critical operational events for large-scale engines and machinery. This is a fully remote, W-2 contract position with an initial duration of 12 months.

What You'll Do
  • Design, develop, deploy, and maintain microservices using Scala and Akka technologies (Streams, Actors, HTTP, Persistence)

  • Build robust, high-availability platform notification services at scale

  • Work independently on complex application and infrastructure components used across one or more systems

  • Drive application development focused on delivering high-value business features

  • Identify and resolve complex application and technical problems end-to-end

  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level engineers

  • Establish and uphold high standards for software quality, practices, and habits within the team

  • Guide structured development of code, program documentation, operations documentation, and user guides

  • Identify and champion areas of growth and continuous improvement within the team

  • Communicate effectively with end users and internal stakeholders

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of experience, or Master's degree with 8+ years of experience

  • 5+ years of software development experience using Java 8+

  • 2+ years of Scala programming experience

  • 2+ years working with Akka technologies (Streams, Actors, HTTP, Persistence)

Nice to Have:

  • Experience designing well-defined Spring Boot RESTful APIs

  • Experience designing and implementing high-availability, reliable solutions

  • Strong knowledge of application architectural patterns: MVC, Microservices, Event-driven, etc.

  • Experience deploying software using CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps or Jenkins

  • Hands-on experience deploying and maintaining software on AWS (API Gateway, ALB, NLB, Fargate, Lambda, S3, CloudWatch, IAM, CloudFormation)

  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases: PostgreSQL, AWS DynamoDB

  • Experience working within an Agile/Scrum framework

  • Solid computer science fundamentals: data structures and algorithms

  • Demonstrated leadership on small-to-medium-scale projects tied to strategic priorities

  • Passion for technology and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset
