Java contractors often work on short-term projects or fill skill gaps in development teams, which can present challenges such as quickly adapting to new codebases and varying team dynamics. To manage these effectively, it’s important to have strong communication skills, a proactive approach to understanding project requirements, and the ability to rapidly learn existing systems. Building rapport with permanent team members and maintaining thorough documentation can also help ease the transition. Staying current with Java frameworks and tools further ensures you can contribute value from day one.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Java Contractor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Java Contractor, you need strong proficiency in Java programming, experience with object-oriented design, and a solid understanding of software development methodologies, often supported by a relevant degree or certifications like Oracle Certified Professional Java Programmer (OCPJP). Familiarity with development tools such as Eclipse or IntelliJ IDEA, version control systems like Git, and frameworks such as Spring or Hibernate is typically required. Excellent problem-solving, adaptability, and communication skills help you collaborate with diverse teams and quickly respond to project changes. This role is focused on building scalable backend services, designing RESTful APIs, integrating enterprise systems, and developing Angular-based user interfaces that support critical business operations. The ideal candidate is a backend-first, full-stack engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, working in environments with limited documentation, and building solutions that are scalable, maintainable, and performant.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and RESTful APIs supporting the client's Training Systems platform.
  • Build and enhance Angular-based user interfaces using existing shared component libraries.
  • Design solutions that prioritize scalability, maintainability, logging, monitoring, and performance.
  • Integrate with existing enterprise systems, relational databases, and internal APIs.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues across both backend and frontend components.
  • Participate in architecture discussions and contribute to long-term technical direction.
  • Work closely with Product, QA, and business stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver solutions.
  • Support all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle, including design, development, testing, deployment, and production support.
  • Deliver high-quality, resilient, secure, and maintainable software solutions.
Required Skills
  • 5+ years of full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) experience.
  • Strong experience designing and developing RESTful APIs.
  • Strong backend development experience using JavaScript, TypeScript, Java, or similar object-oriented/scripting languages.
  • Experience building enterprise applications that interact with relational databases.
  • Experience developing Angular applications (Angular 12+ preferred).
  • Strong understanding of application architecture, design patterns, version control best practices, and deployment processes.
  • Experience troubleshooting production issues and working independently in complex enterprise environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to design software with scalability, maintainability, performance, and observability in mind.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal direction in environments with evolving requirements and limited documentation.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience developing enterprise applications on cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Experience with application logging, monitoring, profiling, and performance optimization.
  • Experience working with APIs interacting with relational databases.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern software delivery practices.
  • Experience working on geographically distributed Agile software delivery teams.
  • Experience building Angular front ends using reusable/shared component libraries.
  • Experience modernizing legacy enterprise applications.
  • Experience with Golang, Angular web, or Flutter mobile development.
Why Should I Apply?

This role offers the opportunity to work on a high-profile enterprise platform within the entertainment industry, utilizing modern technologies and contributing to scalable, impactful solutions. Join a collaborative team dedicated to innovation, modernization, and operational excellence.
