Java Ai Developer information

What is a Java AI Developer?

A Java AI Developer is a software professional who designs, develops, and implements artificial intelligence solutions using the Java programming language. They build machine learning models, integrate AI features into applications, and work with frameworks and libraries suited for AI development in Java. Their role often involves data processing, algorithm development, and deploying scalable AI-powered applications. Java AI Developers may work in various industries such as finance, healthcare, or technology to create intelligent systems that help solve complex business problems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Java AI Developer?

To thrive as a Java AI Developer, you need strong proficiency in Java programming, machine learning concepts, and a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with AI frameworks (such as TensorFlow or Deeplearning4j), version control systems like Git, and experience with cloud platforms are typically required. Creative problem-solving, strong analytical thinking, and effective communication skills help developers collaborate and innovate in complex AI projects. These skills ensure the delivery of efficient, scalable AI solutions and foster productive teamwork in fast-evolving tech environments.

What are some common challenges faced by Java AI Developers when integrating machine learning models into existing enterprise systems?

One of the main challenges Java AI Developers encounter is ensuring seamless integration of machine learning models—often built with Python-based frameworks—into Java-based enterprise environments. This can involve using APIs, microservices, or platforms like TensorFlow Java and Deeplearning4j to bridge compatibility gaps. Additionally, developers must optimize model performance for scalability and real-time inference, which requires thorough testing and tuning. Effective collaboration with data scientists and DevOps teams is crucial to address deployment issues and maintain model accuracy in production.

  • Community Engagement: Represent UKG in the AI community through publications, speaking engagements, and industry forums.
  • Scalable Solutions: Oversee deployment of large‑scale AI models, optimizing performance, cost, and resource efficiency, and establish guidelines for production‑ready AI/ML systems.
  • Governance & Standards: Define and enforce development methodologies, CI/CD standards, and architectural guidelines for AI solutions, and maintain documentation of technical roadmaps.
Qualifications
  • Educational background: MS or PhD in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, or related field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Experience: 12+ years in software development and AI, with at least 5 years of hands‑on experience in generative AI, NLP, or related fields, and proven expertise in architecting and deploying large‑scale AI/ML systems.
  • Technical proficiency: Expert‑level skills in programming languages such as Python and Java, AI frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch, and cloud platforms including AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure; strong MLOps practices for large‑scale model training and deployment.
  • AI methodologies: In‑depth knowledge of generative AI techniques—including transformer models, diffusion models, GANs, large language models, and multi‑modal architectures—and familiarity with NLP and machine learning algorithms.
  • Industry influence: Recognized thought leader in AI, with a record of publications in top‑tier conferences or journals and a strong network within the AI research community.
  • Problem‑solving & strategy: Exceptional problem‑solving skills and a proven ability to influence and implement long‑term AI‑driven strategic initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Compliance & Responsible AI: Experience in high‑compliance environments, privacy‑preserving AI techniques, and responsible AI practices.
  • Optimization expertise: Proven record of optimizing AI models for cost‑efficiency at scale, through compression, distillation, and efficient deployment.
  • Cloud & DevOps knowledge: Strong experience with cloud‑native architectures, containerization (e.g., Kubernetes), and CI/CD automation (e.g., Terraform, GitHub Actions).

Pay range: $163,900.00 to $270,882.00 USD. Base pay may vary based on skills, experience, job‑related knowledge, and work location. Employees may also be eligible for performance‑based bonus plans and restricted stock unit awards.
