What is a Japanese language professional?

Japanese language professionals are individuals skilled in the Japanese language who may work in various roles such as translators, interpreters, language teachers, or cultural consultants. They help facilitate communication between Japanese and non-Japanese speakers, assist with translations of documents, and provide language instruction. Their work is essential in business, education, travel, and diplomatic settings, ensuring accurate and culturally appropriate communication.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Japanese language teacher, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Japanese Language Teacher, you need proficiency in Japanese (often JLPT N2 or higher), a relevant degree, and teaching credentials or experience. Familiarity with language instruction tools, online teaching platforms, and curriculum development software is typically required. Outstanding communication, cultural sensitivity, and adaptability help engage students and address diverse learning needs. These skills enable effective language instruction, foster student progress, and create a positive multicultural learning environment.

What are some common challenges faced by Japanese language teachers working with non-native speakers?

At Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast, you'll collaborate with passionate teams to reimagine our iconic brands and create experiences that spark joy, connection, and community through the magic of play. This is your chance to shape legendary play that lasts a lifetime.
This Senior Game Editor position draws on your mastery of the Japanese language, drive for thoroughness and consistency, and love of collaboration. Our team of outstanding editors collaborates to ensure that all text elements of Duel Masters card sets and related materials meet our quality standards for gameplay, player experience, rules accuracy, grammar, punctuation, and clarity.
At Wizards, we believe diversity of experience is fundamental to creating accessible and fun gaming experiences for all of our players. We encourage everyone to consider being a part of our team.
What You'll Do:
  • Craft the language of Duel Masters. Lead the team of internal and external editors plus the rules manager, owning the presentation and technical implementation of each new card's wording in Japanese. Ensure all cards and mechanics in upcoming releases adhere to the team's current philosophies, balancing historical precedents with innovation and player understanding. Make the final call on all text for cards and packaging.
  • Support creative text development. Collaborate with the teams providing creative and gameplay goals of each card, and ensure card names, flavor words, and flavor text align with and reinforces those goals.
  • Keep a sharp eye on quality. Lead the proofreading process on cards and packaging for content concerns, text errors, layout inconsistencies, and typographical anomalies.
  • Shape tomorrow's Duel Masters cards today. Plan out and optimize all future work with an eye towards efficient resource management, and schedule adherence. Engage with Game Designers to understand and improve potential new game mechanics in future sets. Compose, maintain, and expand upon workflow documentation.

What You'll Bring:
  • At least 1 year of professional experience at a Senior Level in editing, game writing, or comparable work; or 3+ years of experience with some project lead experience.
  • Strong content editing and proofreading skills, plus attention to detail.
  • Deeply collaborative outlook and the confidence and trust to work with others, balanced with proven communication skills in Japanese and English.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and creative, with a constant appetite for knowledge. Ability to lead and manage multiple tasks, teams, and projects simultaneously.

Nice to Have:
  • Familiarity with Smartsheet, Microsoft Office (esp Word), Adobe Suite (Acrobat, InDesign), and/or Confluence.
  • Experience playing or interacting with Trading Card Games or various other kinds of games.
