Ultium Cells, LLC. is a joint venture Lithium-ion automotive battery cell manufacturing plant between LG Energy Solution, Ltd., and General Motors. This high-technology plant is a new construction that has the latest in battery cell manufacturing technology. This $2.3 billion investment is among the largest battery cell manufacturing plants in the world. Ultium Cells produces battery cells for General Motors’ North American electric vehicle applications.

Ultium Cells’ partners include LG Energy Solution, Ltd.; the world’s largest manufacturer of automotive battery cells, and General Motors; a global company committed to delivering safer, better and more sustainable ways for people to get around.

Position Description:

This position will be part of a technical team responsible for engineering work that includes continuous improvement, investigating and troubleshooting equipment/manufacturing/facility problems, analyzing production results, implementing and improving manufacturing methods and processes, and ensuring high yield and productivity in a highly automated manufacturing environment. His/her functions will also include interaction with internal and external customers and external vendors to solve urgent and complex problems by identifying and evaluating alternatives to provide support of all in-plant production as required. Position requires some on-call support.

Job Responsibilities:

The Manufacturing Engineering is a key partner in organization responsible for the Electrode process technology. The engineer will be trained and developed in Mitsubishi PLC programming to:

  • Program the automation and controls systems of various manufacturers (Italy, Japan, Korea)
  • Create, monitor, and modify logic for program design, simulation and testing, start-up, and troubleshooting
  • Manipulate these items using Mitsubishi:
    • Q Series PLC
    • Networking with CC-Link & SSCNET III
    • Motion control with servo motor & robot
  • Integrate and implement various systems such as: Bar Code & RFID Reading, Robot, Ultrasonic Welding, Vision, Weigh Scale, Gas Sampling, etc.
  • Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications and Competencies:
  • Bachelor of Science or associate degree in electrical engineering preferred or Automation (or related) required.
  • 0 to 3 Years Industrial Controls Experience- Experience working in a manufacturing or automotive engineering environment through an internship, co-op, entry level job role, or similar highly preferred.
  • Exposure to controls and electrical systems design, automation, mechanical assemblies, and manufacturing assembly equipment
  • Proactive, resourceful & highly motivated with good communication skills
  • Exposure or education in Battery systems or processes a plus but not required
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
