What do janitors do?

Janitors perform a number of cleaning duties at residential buildings, hospitals, schools, and other buildings for companies. Specific responsibilities may vary, depending on the type of business and size of the building. But their general janitorial duties include emptying trash cans, mopping and sweeping the floors, ensuring that the bathrooms are clean and paper products are replenished, and washing the windows. Some janitors work during regular business hours, while others work after closing.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a janitor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Janitor, you need a solid understanding of cleaning techniques, safety procedures, and routine maintenance, typically requiring a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with cleaning equipment, chemical cleaners, and sometimes OSHA safety certifications are commonly used in this role.
