Job Description

The Janitorial Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily custodial operations of Sitka School District facilities to ensure a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for students, staff, visitors, and community members. This position supervises NMS janitorial personnel, coordinates cleaning schedules, conducts quality inspections, and ensures compliance with NMS policies, Sitka School District requirements, safety standards, and applicable regulations. The Janitorial Supervisor serves as the primary point of contact for NMS custodial operations and works closely with Sitka School District administration and NMS management to support the operational needs of the schools. All duties are to be performed in accordance with NMS' mission, vision, and values.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise, schedule, and coordinate the daily activities of janitorial personnel.
  • Assign work responsibilities and monitor employee performance to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Conduct routine inspections of offices, restrooms, common areas, conference rooms, and other facility spaces to verify cleanliness and sanitation.
  • Ensure cleaning services are performed in accordance with Company standards, security protocols, and safety regulations.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate janitorial staff on cleaning procedures, equipment operation, workplace safety, and customer service.
  • Coordinate special cleaning projects, floor care, carpet cleaning, and emergency cleanup activities.
  • Maintain inventory of janitorial supplies, equipment, and consumables; coordinate ordering and replenishment as needed.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of cleaning chemicals in accordance with Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and regulatory requirements.
  • Respond to customer concerns and service requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Coordinate with Facility Management, Building Administration, contractors, and security personnel to support building operations.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, staff schedules, supply inventories, training, and performance documentation.
  • Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, security concerns, and equipment malfunctions to the appropriate personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with Company policies, environmental regulations, OSHA requirements, and applicable health and safety standards.
  • Perform other supervisory duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge of commercial custodial operations, sanitation standards, and infection prevention practices.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, chemical handling requirements, and workplace safety procedures.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and team management skills.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • At least two (2) year of directly related experience that demonstrates knowledge of janitorial duties and 1 year of experience with supervision of employees.
  • The ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, callouts, etc.
  • Must be fluent in speaking, reading, and writing English.
  • A Valid drivers license and an acceptable driving record for the past 3 years to be eligible under NMS' vehicle insurance policy.
  • Must successfully complete all pre-employment requirements, which may include a criminal background check, drug screening, physical examination, fit-for-duty assessment, and hearing test. Applicants who do not reside near an approved testing facility are responsible for travel expenses to the nearest testing location.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team while maintaining positive relationships with employees, customers, and clients.
