General Description:

The Custodian position is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the facility using standard cleaning practices. The Custodian is accountable for ensuring sufficient stock of cleaning supplies are maintained and stored appropriately. Additionally, external building cleanliness is expected to be a focus for the Custodian.

This is accomplished through the following essential functions:

• Clean hallways, restrooms, breakroom, offices, assembly area, machine shop, and shipping/receiving areas.

• Sweep, vacuum, remove debris, clean spills, and mop floors throughout.

• Vacuum carpeted areas.

• Properly clean and maintain housekeeping equipment.

• Requisition supplies and equipment needed for management of cleaning and maintenance duties.

• Regularly gather and empty all trash and dispose in the designated canister outside of receiving area.

• Ensure trash and recycle areas are organized and accessible to outside service vendors.

• Clean windows, mirrored surfaces, and stainless steel surfaces.

• Disinfect cubicle dividers and door handles.

• External snow removal.

• Wash walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, doors, and sills as needed.

• Dust furniture, walls, and equipment as directed.

• Demonstrate attention to detail and conscientiousness.

• Secure the facility, ensuring the building is locked/unlocked as required.

• Ensure security of company assets.

• Report any damages to facility management.

• Adhere to established procedures to provide a safe working environment including complying with OSHA, state/local, and federal regulations.

• Complete other tasks as assigned.


Job Requirements:

• Successfully complete a criminal background check.

• Speak, read, and write English fluently and perform basic math functions consistent with a high school degree or GED.

• Ability to move in and around the facility with great frequency.

• Ability to use a step stool and cleaning tools (i.e., mops, brooms, dusters, etc.) safely to perform the essential functions of the position.

• Regular bending, lifting, stretching and reaching both below the waist and above the head.

• Regular and reliable attendance.

• Flexibility to work overtime as business needs dictate.


Skills & Abilities:

• Must be a self-starter and able to produce work with minimal supervision.

• Ability to carry out detailed oral or written instructions.

• Ability to multi-task and work independently.


Work Experience & Knowledge Requirements:

• 1+ years’ experience working as a janitor or in custodial arts (preferred).

• Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and tools.

• Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components.


Education Requirements:

• High school degree, GED, or equivalent.
